Wednesday evening's flying turned out to be an enjoyable finish to this spring's visit to Virginia for Marzena and me. Thank you to John M. for his sage advice in the crossing launch conditions to wait for a friendly cycle and to Walt for his smiling enthusiasm. I didn't have the courage to venture beyond the reservoir in the north crossing flow but Mark and his mighty T2C impressively ranged far and wide around the Signal Knob area. Nice flying Mark ... you made it look easy!
The views into the emerald green Fort Valley farms were spectacular in the early evening light. Truly dream-like landscape to be flying over. The thermal drift made the return trip south lazy and enjoyable (although there were still some northerly gusts pushing through). There were two groups of cows in the primary LZ which herded into one group during the downwind leg of my right hand approach pattern and this left the LZ mostly wide open for a pleasant landing. Surprisingly though, the wind didn't back off in the LZ until after sunset.
Special place you have here, truly a treasure. Marzena and I hope to visit and fly with you again as soon as we can!
Happy Landings and Lots o' Lift,
