"Fin of shame"? Bah. I flew with a fin for 2 years.
It's tempting to view fins like training wheels, however that mentality seems to get people hurt.
I prefer to think of them like condoms.
Until you're in a committed relationship with your glider, you go ahead and slide that thing on and it keeps you safe(r). It lets you go out, have fun while trying out strange new things with a whole lot less worry.
Without it, you might find yourself in a very expensive and potentially long term life altering situation usually involving medical professionals.
Who wants that?
