Too early to decide, since the weather can change, however, it looks promising!

Re: Wed (3/18/2015) @ Woodstock
I have not flown there yet, but I would be up for Wednesday afternoon. John Middleton, maybe you could meet me at the Bridge field and talk about approaches and landings briefly?
Re: Wed (3/18/2015) @ Woodstock
IHMO, Woodstock is the best place around DC.
Those flying high performance glider normally do not have issues landing at the bridge field, when it is open. Those poor mortals flying single surface only are able to do so when they are able to get at least 1500feet above the LA
I was able to land at the bridge field a couple of times: it is better and easier than the main LZ.
I hope we will have a good day this Wed.
Regs, Walt

Re: Wed (3/18/2015) @ Woodstock
Well, I'm on a Sport 2, not a high perf wing, so I might be landing at the main lz too. Either way I need a site intro.
Re: Wed (3/18/2015) @ Woodstock
I'll be looking at Wednesday. Any one of us will be happy to talk about approaches.

Re: Wed (3/18/2015) @ Woodstock
I'm in for Wednesday. drabbb: I think we may all be flying Sport 2s. The main LZ is really no problem, even for a topless: you sort of dive into a hole and then land uphill, so it sort of flares you. But then, this is my favorite site where I learned, too, and I never knew any better... - Hugh
Re: Wed (3/18/2015) @ Woodstock
Great! It looks like I now can go to WS on Wed too and can be there earliest at noon. Also, don't have to rush back home this time. (c) 703-nine-six-seven-8277, Knut

Re: Wed (3/18/2015) @ Woodstock
Can someone give me quick directions to the Bridge field from the Woodstock exit?
Re: Wed (3/18/2015) @ Woodstock
Probably
I will be coming from BlueSky. I'm picking up my new (to me) Freedom.

I flew a North Wing tandem (I guess that's the Freedom?) last season and it's much nicer handling than the Wills Wing tandem I had before. - Hugh

Thanks Matt, I'm looking forward to it. I'm devolving, T2 to Atos to Freedom.
I mentioned BlueSky above, so if someone needs something from Steve, just let him know and I could bring it along. I'm driving the truck because I haven't finished my car rack yet, so there is plenty of space on top too.

I am sure you will be happy with it. They are super fun to fly. I flew my 170 up to a pilot weight of 210 at one point and it flew great!
Cheers,
Matt

Re: Wed (3/18/2015) @ Woodstock
It kind of depends on if you're coming from the South or the North. Look for where Woodstock Tower Road crosses the Shenandoah River.darbbb wrote:Can someone give me quick directions to the Bridge field from the Woodstock exit?
But, you should check out the primary at the end of Moose Road. Go to the end of the road, turn left into the driveway and immediately turn left again into the grassy parking area so you're facing the road. Walk downhill and into the fenced-in field. Don't worry about the cows; they don't bite. Walk at least to the middle of the field and note how it slopes.

Re: Wed (3/18/2015) @ Woodstock
Assuming you are coming via 66 and 81 South, take the Tom's Brook exit (after Strasburg), go east until you intercept route 11; turn right/south. You'll go through a couple little communities and when you hit Woodstock proper, there will be a Chrysler dealership on the right, a county building up and half block back on the left and a bedraggled shopping center with a big parking lot out front on the left. Turn before the shopping center; that's Woodstock Fire Tower road (eventually - it may be called something else at first). If you are going to the primary LZ first, turn left at the stop sign and drive on Water Street behind the county building , then right onto Moose Road that leads to the LZ. You can then come back the way you came to intercept Woodstock Fire Tower Road.
If you continue for the bridge field, an apparent T intersection will actually slope off to the left; press on. Bridge field will be on your left with a sweeping turn at the end leading to the bridge. Launch is on up the road which has lots of switchbacks and becomes gravel. There'll be a wide area for parking just before the summit. The path is to the right - it's about 100 meters/yards in.

Looks like Walt and I will be leaving Arlington early afternoon. Have room for more. I don't see a need to be in the air during the time of greatest heating.

Thinking maybe/sorta/kinda.... Would have to work for a half day, then take some time off for an afternoon flight. But the backlog is large, so this might just be wishful thinking.
