Satruday Flying 2/7

Post by Matthew »

Forecasts are starting to trend towards a southerly flow and warmer temps on Saturday.

Got my fingers (and toes) crossed for Daniel's.

I'm up for giving Daniel's a try on Saturday if someone has a vehicle that can haul my HG up the dirt road.

Considering it.... Either Daniels or Taylor, depending on how virtuous I feel

A couple of us flew PGs at Daniels two days ago. The weather was mild, the road up was easily manageable by any 4wd high clearance vehicle, the slot is in pretty good shape. My flying partner was in the air for 2 1/2 hours.
If you are on the fence about going, maybe this will help you decide.

On the other hand a Taylor Farm day would give me the chance to brush up on my kiting skills. Mark, if you decide to go there you don't need to go alone.

Thinking that a t-hill day isn't in the cards for me tomorrow: trying to get an ankle and knee back into runnable shape, and a bunch of trips up the hill seems like it might be asking for trouble (yeah, yeah, like landing after a soaring flight is sure to be perfect *smile*). In any case, leaning towards Daniels. Though Sunday looks like better velocity for the HGers, I'm seeing indications of strong W cross that day at altitude....

Course, everything will probably be totally different with the AM forecasts...

Regarding today, I'm seeing some lighter forecasted winds than yesterday and some are saying more westerly than southerly. West is bad at Daniels. I'm on the fence.

Decisions. Decisions.

I'm out (for today). The 'cast has ben backed down to a max of 7, and pretty cloudy until the end of the day. Also unencouraged by the sat loop.

Just doesn't seem like the odds are very good, given the long drive... But I'm still thinking about tomorrow: supposedly no more than 50% cloud cover all day.

Hmmm... A second look at the clouds isn't as bad as I had thought : looks like there are some good sized breaks upwind of Daniels. Might work for the PGers. But it would take full-on sun to tempt me down there with the current sfc wind forecast.

Jesse, is tomorrow an option for you?

Saturday, Feb. 7- I arrived to no wind. As I set up my hg, wind began to trickle up the slot. Indeed it trickled up the slot all day with some stronger cycles when a weak thermal would come through. I was determined to get a hg flight and so I did. It was a good sled ride. Went up again and got an extendo on my pg. Matthew, Karen, Dan and George were present. All who flew got either an extendo (some got above launch for a brief period) or sled. Scott Seagrave, a new homeowner on the mountain (Matthew and Karen's neighbor) introduced himself. He was very friendly and welcoming. A beautiful day on the mountain. Sunday (today) looks like it will be better.
