MLK day flying

Post by silverwings »

Might be doable at Pulpit, High Rock, Woodstock, Smithsburg. Any interest out there?

I'm a new H2 and interested in flying on MLK day. Are there any other HG observers thinking about going?

Yes, I am interested if the conditions are "waltable" :)

Looks to me that the Pulpit is going to be on the strong side, so Woodstock is probably a better choice. Maybe a bridge field ETA about 11:30. Any others besides Walt and Anthony interested?

I'm in if the prediction stays good. John, do you know if we have permission to land at the bridge field?

Interested.... But dependent on tomorrow's forecasts, they seem to be jumping around a lot lately.

Trying to get motivated, but the cloud cover currently on the satellite isn't helping... What's the consensus?

I'm gonna bag it due to the predicted west cross on NOAA. John, do you definitely know we have permission to land there? I sniffed around but nobody seems to know anything about it. Repeatably landing in a place where we don't have permission, and is covered in "Posted, private property" signs, could jeopardize the site. As for me I won't be landing in that field.

Andy, I'm pretty sure it's OK to land there, and I didn't always feel that way. I seem to recall someone having an impromptu, post-flight conversation with the landowner who didn't object.

That being said, I might just bag it myself for today.

Argh. I am going to have to bail. I think it's definitely worth the gamble on the W cross, and the latest satellite photos imply that there should be a decent amount of sun. But I'm still not 100% after a bout with the flu, and don't want to push my luck. Bummer.

As for the LZ, I also recall that two pilots had chatted with a landowner who was quite positive about people landing there, maybe 2 years ago? I still try to limit my use of the field, so as not to wear out our welcome. But on a strongish W day I am likely to give it a go.

Hm...allright, thanks for the responses, Dave and Mark. I'll see if I can find contact info for the landowner somehow.

Over the past two years, I've had several very positive conversations with Bill Grillo who owns the land across the street from the Bridge Field and each time he has offered to let us land on his side of the road but I don't know if anyone has. If you need more info, send me a private message and I'll give you his email address and phone number.

Bummer about the road!

It's been awhile, but I've landed in the field across the road from the Bridge field.
