Re: smithsburg status?
No it is not open. There is alfalfa at the top and in the LZ and they do not want it walked on. I spoke to the care taker and Eddie Miller (on 11/16 and they both indicated that. I plan on trying to meet with the land owner soon to discuss the situation. As soon as I have more information I will post it.

Re: smithsburg status?
Open with conditions. I had a long talk with the owner this morning and he is keeping the Alfalfa crop in the LZ and on top of the hill during the winter. He doesn't mind us walking on it. It is my understanding that it was about 8-10 inches high in the LZ which precludes landing on wheels making it unsafe for landing except for experience pilots flying either hang gliders or paragliders landing on their feet. He does not want a lot of vehicles parking at the entrance so we should keep the number of vehicles down to max of 4 (my suggestion). I will try to reach Eddie and have him turn the sign. Any questions, please contact me.
