Eyeing Fri07Nov : Woodstock

Post by markc »

So... Friday is looking like a possibility at Woodstock. Text 'cast currently G30 (again), but the hourly is calling for G20-23. So I plan to check the vacation-day balance and will keep an eye out for a possible flying day.

Would anyone else be able to get away?

Yes but....if it's borderline high, like it looks now, I'll probably make other plans.

Also on the fence. Wind direction is ideal but speed needs to back off before committing.

Friday will be my last chance for airtime for the next two weekends, so I'm really hoping that conditions will moderate a bit. Say, G20? Hoping, hoping....

The two ways it looks like you can fly at Woodstock Friday is launch early before it gets out of hand on launch or wait until near sunset for it to (maybe) back down and allow another quick sunset flight. Option one is not desirable for the amount of turbulence the atmosphere may have and the fact that one really would not want to have to fly for close to 7 hours before it backs down to moderate levels on the surface to land. Sunday is looking way good (at this point) for the Pulpit. Bacil

Current NWS hourly: 15G20
NWS text: 15-20G30

Hopefully they will converge by tomorrow, and make the decision easier...

Urfff.... The gust factor on the hourly now lasts well past sunset, plus one odd little G30 peak midday. Double-barrel cold front too. Unless things change for the better, I don't think I'm willing to burn leave on that sort of 'cast.

Will monitor tomorrow, until the mid-AM updates.

I agree Mark, not comfortable with the 25-30 mph at or near launch that are predicted for most of the day. My low currency can’t cash the checks that those conditions will most certainly dish-out, waiting for another day (maybe Sunday).
