Re: Pulpit Sunday 11/9
No one has posted recently about flying there. I think either the Pulpit or High Rock could work on Sunday. I might be giving it a try. What about others?

Got to the Pulpit at 9:15A to find Charley Fager and Ward Odenwald already there and it already soarable, w/ gusts up to 25 MPH on the pad. Wave clouds were all over the sky with some cumulus mixed in. I quickly set up as Jon Brantley and Walt Melo arrived. Had a good takeoff from the pad at 10:30A after waiting out a strong gusty period of 10 minutes prior. Got up easily and spent the first half hour following a cloud street out into the valley over the golf course. Max altitude 1300' over. Saw that Ward had taken off and was cruising back and forth between launch and 16 and not getting high (yet). I returned to the ridge at Rt. 16 and headed back north. Ward at this time had found a nice thermal and climbed up high behind launch. I found some lift that got me to 1100' over but it quit just behind launch. I went south in search of good clouds but they weren't working. Got flushed as Ward stayed stinking high, flying out into the valley and drifting behind launch. In the main LZ the farmer was plowing part of the field so I had to "wait" until he pulled a 180 before committing to final. Had a nice landing heading due west. Jon and his "Howloween" Falcon launched and got up. Walt and Johan launched and got up. Ward landed while I was breaking down, coming down from a perch of 4500' MSL. John Middleton put in a windsock and streamer in the LZ and headed up. Greg Sessa scratched his butt off for a very long time and was rewarded with a soaring flight. John specked out, Charley soared, Matthew specked out in his PG, and Denis Scheele and his tandem passenger soared once again. Karen and Hugh set up but broke down when conditions got light and cross after 3P. There was still lift late when Charley soared his Zagi over launch, and we watched a bald eagle climb high effortlessly above launch just before sunset. It was a good day at the Pulpit. Bacil

Re: Pulpit Sunday 11/9
Fun day at the Pulpit after some frustrating wresting with my PG.
Winds were moderate to light when Karen and I got to the Pulpit at 11:30am. Karen and I helped wire off a few HGs and I Observed Walt in his HG. He had a great launch from the new ramp. With conditions still looking OK for PG, a dragged the bag up to launch and started to set up. Of course, it started to blow like stink then. I waited and then tried to build a wall when winds abated. It was a disaster-- winds picked back up and the wing flipped over on me a couple of times. Big thanks to John M. and Karen for helping to untangle the wing and lines. I gave up and moved off to the area behind the old ramp and helped wire crew John off the pad. Hugh showed up and again winds started to be reasonable-- about 5-8. I pulled the canopy back over to launch just in time for the winds to shoot back up. The canopy flipped every which way as I tried to check my lines. Winds were switching from North cross to South cross to straight in. I had two aborted launch attempts. With the help of Hugh and Karen (Big,, BIG THANKS!) I was able to once again untangle the canopy. I was ready to quit and I decided to build a wall one more time to make sure the lines were all clear. Hugh, Karen, Tom ( P4 who recently moved here from CA) and a spectator were holding my wing to the ground just in case. Finally, winds lightened back up and came straight in. So I launched. Once airborne, everything was great. Big fat thermals all along the ridge and no penetration problems. I topped out at 2500 over launch a couple of times and thought about going over the back. But I decided to stay local so as not to be a further PIA. I got about an hour and a half or so. Winds became light and South cross at the end of the flight. Yet for some reason winds were from the North in the LZ when I landed.
Anyway, it was fun and beautiful day.
