Highland 9-27-14

The boys at Highland will be having an informal out and return comp on saturday the 27th . The rules are simple takeoff, go in any direction you want, make it back and land on the airport property . All you need is a way to confirm your distance , a track log from an instrument , gps or smart phone will do. Sounds like fun to me see you there

Great Day at Highland on Saturday. Arrived around 12:30PM. ~5 miles wind drifting from NE. Had two great flights. Flew up to Ridgely two times, but never did get more than ~2 miles away from the airport. Tried to fly on my first flight to the river and Denton area and back; though did feel I would not be able to get back to the airport; so, decided to bail out and fly back.
Many pilots did fly and I guess there where at least 15 pilots at Highland on Saturday.
Some pilots flew for ~3 hours and made it back after a ~10-15km x 2.
Had a great dinner that Highland made for us with one of the best steaks I have ever eaten and more. As always, many pilots hanging out after the flight and had some great conversations with all the pilots.

First Annual Cluck You, Out and Return Contest: Great weekend. Got to fly with some very talented pilots. Launched in the middle of the pack and climbed to 4k over the river and tried to get away. Chickened out and repeatedly returned to a nice lift line not very far away from the airport. Spent most of the flight over 3k and finally returned to the airport and flew with Knut in a nice thermal. Landed after 1.5 hrs cold and tired, but very satisfied. Most of us stayed for an amazing dinner and entertaining conversation. Hope some of the pilots will elaborate. Quite a few "amazing stories."

Maybe this picture sums it up. Get ready for next year's informal Cluck You 2 contest.
