Brazil in February

Post by mingram »

I'm planning a trip back to Brazil for two weeks in February for XC distance flying with my buddy Kevin McGinley. Kevin lives in Brazil part-time so he really knows the area and is a fantastic coach for people who want to fly XC and for new pilots who want to learn to thermal. I flew this site as a new P2 and got to cloudbase for the first time and got my first XC flight! Kevin is also a tandem pilot and can show you how XC works with a tandem flight. The predominant wind direction follows the main road and it's easy to catch a bus back to launch which makes self-retrieve very easy.

Myself and a P2 friend Daniel Johnston are planning to go sometime in February. We haven't set dates yet, but Kevin is available January, February, and March. I'd love to get a group of friends to join me. Once I get the list of interested pilots Kevin will work out a group rate. Let me know if you wanna join.

Good for you for planning ahead. Is Gov Valadares one of your prime flying sites? Others? If planning to tour around, don't forget that "Carnaval" will be Feb 13--17 in 2015. And it is not just in Rio, but many other towns (and esp state capitals) have a busy carnival week and 'escolas de samba', parades, etc. Esp resort - like cities and hotels will be full up (if only because Brazilians are escaping Rio, S. Paulo, etc). I won't be in Brazil in winter 2015, still thinking Argentina/ Chile, not a flying trip. Enjoy! --John

I have just came back from brasilia Brazil. Unfortunately I arrived there just after the Brazilian HG tournament.
Tickets & hotels in brazil can be very expensive from December until 1 week after "Carnaval." However ticket prices drop substantially after that.

Are you planning this clinic only to PGs?
I would be very interested in participating in a HG kind of clinic in Brazil: I can help as a Portuguese translator;)

Great place Valladares. Did fly HG there in Nov 1995. But did not traveled with a group, which was a big mistake... . Few pilots flying there during the week; but hooked up with 4 PG pilots from Spain. Though, that has probably changed now and it is probably more busy in Nov (Valladares) and more PG's visiting.
Looking at flywithdustin.com; I which I knew about "November and flying in Andradas, a few hours from Sao Paulo". Would have been fun trying that place also. Andradas seems epic for Nov and Dustin's favorite flying site in Brazil.
Have fun!
