Leaving the area

Post by FlyingFelix »

Hi all,
Some of you already know but I thought I'd write up a little post; I'll be leaving the area this month, heading to Utah, Salt Lake City for now - which may become my permanent residence.
It was a great honor being part of our hang gliding community with its great pilots and people! Hang gliding changed my life and I couldn't of started better in this terrific sport anywhere else. We have a variety of sites and I've benefited from great guidance and help throughout my development as a pilot - so, thank you all!
I'll specially miss Highland Aerosports and the guys there, the place that made it all a reality for me, they are truly amazing. I was there yesterday taking my H4 test and despite me being the only pilot out there everybody was out working, very supportive and helpful. They made me do my spot landings (within 25' of target) in 3 separate gliders - first the Combat, then a Target (never flown one but it's great, crosswind landing requested on this one) and then my Discus - talk about diversity  It was all done and in the bag when the first drops of rain came down, talk about perfect timing! I took a stab at the written test as well but I'll have to go and actually study a bit for that one, I forgot some stuff plus this test seemed a bit odd to me, I took it just to get an idea of what I need to study up on. I'll hopefully pass it on my next try.
I intend of keeping in touch with you guys and unless the world ends I'll be coming for the annual ECC Competition every year.
Hope to see many of you in the air in the near future, if not here before I leave, somewhere else - it's small world after all; besides, once I'm all settled in the new place I'll welcome visiting pilots anytime!
Wishing everyone blue skies and great flights!
Felix.

You need to buy a huge house on Point of the Mtn on Steep Mtn Drive. With a pool

Joe Schad and I were just out there. There are a lot of really nice sites in addition to POM. I think our favorite was Bountiful -- we (almost) always got up there and it has a huge flat grassy LZ

Thanks guys, as I said you're welcome to visit! I don't know about a huge house with a pool but I'll have some place you can crash :)
I went to pick up a trailer for the move today and since it was somewhat close to Highland I went by and flew my already setup Combat (waiting for the completion of the cover) - a sweet flight of about an hour and a half to two hours in pretty skies. That wing is amazing! Also took the written H4 test again, I'm pretty positive I passed this time around. John M. flew as well. Hope to catch some of you guys (and gals) around before I take off next Monday!

Felix,
We will miss you and I was hoping you could go with me to Edith's Gap flying XC this summer. As you see with Tom (PG's), there are some great opportunities for XC, starting at Edith's Gap. I will have to find some other pilots that are interested. Maybe we can get Bunner, McGovan and/or (?) to come and lead the way? Anyway, will be going on my annual bike trip this weekend and next week and will not be flying. Though, as long as I have a Nanny available, I will be able to go on any day in August, more or less, starting in 9 days. So, if anybody is interested in XC from Edith's Gap, let me know.
Felix, have a save trip, continue post video's and I am sure you will get a lot of great flying in Utah, Salt Lake City; but you might need some oxygen equipment aboard.
Talk to you soon!

I'll be going to Highland this morning until this afternoonn for a last flight there until I return (perhaps next year's ECC). Gotta pick up my Combat and it's new cover, then more packing time and I'll be off either Sunday evening or Monday morning.
Looks like a great day today, hope to see some of you there, even if it's still a week day.

Went by Highland today for a last flight and to pick up my new wing together with the sweet pull on sun cover (thanks to Jim Rooney, glider cover extraordinaire). I also got my H4 card today  8)
Had a 30 min. flight in light conditions then packed it all up and said good bye to some great people and friends.
Look forward to seeing many of you next year at the ECC!

I was at Highland yesterday morning and got to see that sexy wing. It looks like a blade that will slice through turbulence!

I took 3 aerotowing lessons with Adam and liked it. I wasn't expecting launch and landing speeds to be that fast! My eyes teared-up on every tow and I thought I might lose a contact so I guess I need to get goggles. I started to get used to the speed by the 3rd flight and was almost in complete control. Stalls and turns were fun! I'll be back for more.

I got to the SLC area on Thursday night and I've been in amazement ever since. Flying 2 sites a day, gorgeous places and very friendly people. I think I'm gonna like it here :)
Blue skies!
...and come visit!

Send us some pictures Felix! and say hi to our PG friend Lazlo when you meet him. You can't miss him he's the one who will be cursing loud enough to be heard in the next county as he sinks out. ;-)
