Options for Thurs07Aug

Post by markc »

OK, so I'm looking once again at options for some mid-week flying, if conditions seem worthy of a vacation day....

And at the moment, it looks like High Rock might be good on Thursday. The Pulpit might be too North, at least based on the current 'casts.

And Thursday is *not* Friday: So it might even be possible to work for a few hours, then hit the road.

Anyone else thinking about it?

Hey Mark,

Saw HR Thursday too but I have my sights set on Highland Friday... unless we can get a quorum for HR Thursday. Can't get there until later in the day. Let's keep an eye on it!

Looking a bit NNW at High Rock, but I'm still encouraged by what I see. We would need a minimum of 4 : Launch 2, then they come back up for the other 2.

Surface forecast is a solid 10, and I've got to think there will be more than that at launch given the dew point. Could be really nice day!

Let's hope the forecast doesn't tank!

Sorry to bail, but got a chance to join a group and paddle the Lower Youghigenny and am grabbing it - won't be able to fly after all.

Valerie,

Are you rafting the Lower Yough or kayaking? It's running about 1.6' and that's a little low, but very do-able.

I've down the LY more than any other whitewater run and it's well worth the time and effort!

I'll be kayaking - I've done it before - it is at the "top of my game" and was very fun. Locally Little Falls is great, but the LY is just amazing (for me).

Forecast has been backed off a bit.... And the ADDS 3k is light... But OTOH, the temp/dp spread is 30 degrees at 4pm, gotta think this bodes well. Direction still seems too N for the Pulpit.

Weekend mtn options seem limited at this point: maybe Jack's on Sunday (long drive), or maybe Edith's (but lots of clouds). So this has me leaning toward giving HR a try, even though it's less than 10 (surf).

Opinions?

I'm planning to telework from home for a few hours in the AM, so that I don't get "sucked in", and then decide go/no-go based on the 10:00-ish forecast update.

If things haven't gone downhill, then HR it is! :D

Otherwise: Head into the office. :x

Karen cannot get off of work-- even for half day.

And now it is looking too North. ADDS even shows NE by late afternoon.

So I am out as well.

Hmmmm.... Matthew, have you seen the below forecasts, as of 10pm Thurs?

I admit that there's a chance that it could go too N, but I'm not seeing any signs of NE, at least thus far.

Time will tell, let's see what tomorrow brings. Hopefully something good! :-)

Looks pretty darn good for HR on Thursday. Can you say "evening magic"? Will check in the morning again but I'm thinking yes... can't get there till later in the day though.

I think I'm going to shift my focus to "hope-for-magic".

Not willing to spend an entire day of leave given the current 'casts. However, a half-day seems like a worthwhile gamble, and it's a short drive. Bring along a few brews, and enjoy a nice sunset if things don't work out.

Will make the final-final call at noon. If things haven't gone downhill, I plan to be at HR at 2pm.

David, are you "in" ?

Looks about perfect from N. Baltimore. I sense a glass-off. Be there 5:30ish.
