I don't have anything to say you probably haven't heard, but I'm blown away by the disaster unfolding along the Gulf Coast. I don't think most of the country realizes yet how bad it is, partly due to all the hurricanes that had more bark than bite.
I have an aunt and uncle who lived in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. They had a 32-foot sailboat. Gone. Their house? Gone. What's amazing is they had 24 hours to evacuate with their most precious belongings, and they didn't leave 'til the last minute, carrying almost nothing. They were (perhaps still are?) in denial.
It is not an exaggeration to say this is an even bigger, more terrible disaster than 9/11 (Some major news outlets are already saying this---it's not mine.) And it won't be over for months.
Times like this, I feel a bit guilty just going about my life (and flying). But other than donating money (Red Cross is the best bet there in my opinion) there doesn't seem like much I can do.
Unreal.
