Arrived at the Pulpit just before 10:30A to find Ward Odenwald checking conditions on the ramp. 14 to 18 MPH STFI. We set up leisurely under a sky that was OD'ing in several places. Denis Scheely showed up to round out the pilot contingent. 3 spectators showed up from Williamsport PA to check us out. Drew, Amber, and Norman ended up sticking around and helping Denis and Ward launch from the pad. I started us off at 12:30P after it settled down a bit on launch. Spent a frustrating hour not finding anything coherent and not getting above 600' over. Denis launched and headed north and found better conditions on the way to Cowan's Gap Lake. Ward launched and he and I got tossed around and almost flushed at times. We then ended up finding some coherent lift that enabled me to get to 1100' over and Ward a bit higher. Denis returned from the north and joined us. I ended up crossing the power lines and finding a good thermal that got me to 4800' MSL drifting OTB. After an hour and a half in the air underdressed and out of flying shape I flew over Broad Mt. and didn't care if I found anything to keep me up. Ending up landing on the south side of Rt. 30 in a large field. Broke down in the wind shadow of some storage buildings next to the field. Charley Fager retrieved me and we went back to launch to drive Ward's car down to the main LZ where both Denis and Ward landed. Both Ward and Denis were quite pleased with their flights. Later the sky simmered down and looked a lot less angry. Even after a few hours on the ground I was still feeling cold. Be careful about flying underdressed for multiple hours. It can cool your core. Thanks for the report. A sailplane guy out of Front Royal did a 300 kilometer plus triangle yesterday. I gave a motorglider ride at College Park. - Hugh

Here's some pics of the primary LZ. Right now most (if not all) of it is good for landing and although most of the corn stalks have been cut down, I did not see any evidence of this year's planting. The grass in the upper field is also short.

The golf course is also a very good landing option.

Thanks Bacil!
