Sacramento Saturday 4/19

Post by XCanytime »

The forecast is as good as it gets. Straight in dead nuts north at 10 to 15 MPH. I hope to get there by 11:30A. Joe and Karen Gorrie, Doug Rogers, and Bob Beck are the likely local fliers that will be there tomorrow. Bacil

And it was an awesome day at the SAC! Got there at noon to find a new windsock being raised by Joe and Doug and multiple pilots setting up. Bob Beck, Jesse Fulkersein, and Shawn MacDuff were the locals. It was strong at launch as I set up. Pat Fuedo, Karen, and Tom McGowan added to the pilot contingent. As I was finishing setting up, the conditions started to back down nicely. I took off at 1:30P in a nice smooth cycle and turned right. Dolphin flew into a NE cross on the ridge. Finally found some lift out away from the ridge and climbed up to 1000' over. Flew back towards launch and lost a few hundred. Went out into the valley again and ran into some really nasty air that put me over the falls and rattled my cage. Flew out of the washing machine and got flushed down to ridge level. Flew back along the ridge to make it back to opposite the main LZ. Flew out to land after only a half hour in the air. At 300' over the LZ found some lift that I cored and climbed from 1200' MSL to 3400' MSL. At this point Bob Beck joined me in the air and climbed higher in the same thermal to the east. It was bulletproof now and everywhere I flew I ran into lift that I would take back up to 2K+ over. After an hour+ in the air I decided to call it quits and not wear myself out since this was my first flight in 6 months. Had a nice approach and landing just before 3P in a pretty docile LZ. All the other pilots soared to their hearts content and a few had climbs exceeding 4K+ over launch. A few of us celebrated at a Chinese restaurant in Valley View. It's good to be back. Bacil

Wow, sounds like a great flying day for all. I've never flown the SAC and hope to do so one day. Glad to hear you're back up with the birds Bacil! Looking forward to sharing the air somewhere soon.
Felix.

Thanks a lot Felix. It was very satisfying to fly again. Hope you guys have a great day at Gary's Beach tomorrow. I predict the same conditions that you had last May will turn up again. Bacil
