High Rock/Pulpit on Sunday

Post by silverwings »

Forecast looks fairly good. Any interest? We could fly and still be back for the Super Bowl if desired.

For those who have not flown High Rock before, don't forget to sign the Waiver at Emma Jane's House.

Also, you need a CL or AWCL Sign Off. If not you need an Observer with those sign offs. And don't forget to check the Notams!

https://pilotweb.nas.faa.gov/PilotWeb/

Type in KZDC, hit View NOTAMs and contol f to search thurmont.

Just checked and it's clear. But it doesn't hurt to check again in the morning before you go.

The waiver is to be signed before landing in Mrs. Emma Jane's field. It would be a good idea to walk the field before landing there if you are not familiar with it.

Mrs. Emma Jane is very social and like company and to chat so please consider that. Be sure to drop in after flying to sign the log book and offer your donation for the work she puts into keeping the field open and clear for us. Also, she prefers to be called "Mrs Emma Jane" or "Ms Emma Jane", not Mrs. or Ms. Emma.

Good luck tomorrow. I'd love to give it a go but am still under the weather with the flu, ugh. Please tell Mrs. Emma Jane that I said hi.

Just looked at the forecast and it has gotten significantly lighter so maybe the Pulpit would be a better choice (thats why I changed the Subject). Thoughts?

Given that the glider's on the truck, I'm at least giving tomorrow some thought.... Lots of clouds, but low-to-mid-40s isn't too bad. Guess it'll come down to when the bad weather is supposed to move in (winter strorm watch for High Rock Sunday evening). If the precip seems like it will hold off, might be worth a try, somewhere.

The forecast is looking less promising, very light winds, cross from the left, direction improving though still light late afternoon but cold front approaching at night. Unless others post more optimistic views, I think I will pass. Too bad I didn't have adequate students to teach at Taylors today!

My concern for the Pulpit is the precip : It's moving at a good clip based on a 2-hour loop that I just checked, and already in shouting distance of Fulton county. HRock would be a better choice, but the winds are forecast to be pretty darn light.

I'm hanging out at Hugh's place.
I'd be keen to tag along if anyone's drifting through the area. I have no car... hrm... need a driver?
Additionally, I have my tandem PG here if you're heading to a site that's PG friendly (aka, not High Rock).

Cheers
