Looking less do-able for Sat. at Daniels as of now...
How 'bout Sunday? High Rock or Pulpit?

Daniel's still looks good to me for Saturday! SW around 10 later in the afternoon and partly sunny.

Do you think a couple of newbie P-2s could handle it? Sara and I are really itching to get some air time on our new wings but winter has had other plans.

Daniel's is a P2 with Observer site. You will need to contact an Observer.

See-- http://www.chgpa.org/Education/h2p2_guide.html

A list of Observers for MD and VA is also here--

http://www.ushpa.aero/observe_table.asp?state=va

http://www.ushpa.aero/observe_table.asp?state=md

I'm an Observer. Send me an email (not a Forum PM) or call if you have not found an Observer yet. My number is in the club roster.

Taylor Hill might be a better alternative for knocking the rust off those launching/kiting skills. It faces the same general direction as Daniels and is a little closer. You can forward launch Daniels, but it's scrubby so you should have someone looks at your lines and be ready to yell stop in case there is a stick stuck in them so you can abort.

Temps and sun sure make Daniels interesting for Sat.... But on the downside, winds are forecast to be a bit light for HG. On the upside, the 3k 'cast is fairly strong. But on the other downside, I can't count the number of times that it's been dead on launch. As you might surmise, I'm conflicted... Plus, can only fly one day this weekend. Not an easy call!

Thoughts?

Hmm, looks to be light and SE to S at Daniel's, I took too many trips down there for a sledder...I kind of don't want to go, even if I'm really needing some air time.
What's Edith's Gap direction again? :^) just kidding...or am I?
Sunday may be OK at High Rock but I may not be able to get out.
What to do?

Yeah, it's a tough call (at least for HG) tomorrow.... Light SE going S for the surface 'cast. But the 3k 'cast is calling for increasing winds, cranking (30-40 SSW) by Sat evening.

Will that translate into something useful/soarable during the day at Daniels? (which always seems to blow far less than the forecast?) Sheesh, I dunno!

The latest 'cast for The Pulpit on Sunday is 100% cloud cover early, winds almost certainly soarable early (WNW), but with a gust-factor entering the picture by 4pm (and probably earlier, up top). And the "CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS" in the NWS surface 'cast isn't exactly encouraging.

High Rock _seems_ a bit better, but for some reason the NWS surface 'cast is already calling for "BECOMING NORTHWEST WITH GUSTS UP TO 20 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON" on Sunday.

At the moment, I'm leaning toward giving Daniel's a try on Saturday. And maybe Smithsburg on Sunday?

Still planning on Daniel's on Saturday-- but see no reason to get there before 1pm. Sleeping in late-- just go home from flying trapeze.

Well Dr. Jacks shows better conditions for Daniels than what I've seen until last night. Stronger S winds and pretty good lift (Again, this compared to what I've seen until this morning)
I'm gonna stay positive and get ready.
I'll check in again but I think I'm in...

I will get ready and be there ~12:30PM. It is a nice day and I am sure there will be some PG's there today. So, if I don't get to fly, I'll have a great hike at the mountain. If needed, call me later for updates at 703-nine-six seven-82 seven-seven. Knut

Glider's on the truck, but I'm out. Just looking to iffy for that long drive, sigh.

Course, this will probably guarantee good flights for those who do go! Hope to hear that some soaring was had.

It was great being at Daniel’s Mountain today and we all flew.
The weather was just fantastic.
But, it was the PG’s day in the air today and they really did log many hrs. I personal had to fight very hard to try to stay up with my wing and my vario did say 14 min. flight time; but, find hard to believe I stayed that long up. I simply did not fly efficient enough.
Nevertheless, for HG’s: I think it was quite possible to soar more today, if you started at the right time and did fly very efficient.
For PG, I think it was perfect.
We all had good aggressive launches and it was very nice landing condition at the LZ. All this made my trip to Daniel’s today, well worth going.

Very nice day at Daniel's. I was the last man off at around 4pm after Observing P2 Justin, H2 Walt and, lastly, Karen. Walt had a stellar launch! Felix and Knut also had strong launches. All of the PGs soared--with early birds Tom and Lazlo getting around 2.5 hours. I got a little under an hour. and 700 over launch. Others included Jim McClave, Austin and Paul.

An HG pilot good at scratching in close, say like Mark Cavanaugh, would've gotten up.

:)

Yeah Mark, you totally could of stayed up!
The Paraglider pilots did great today. I need to get me one of those!
Awesome day to be out. I thought I'd get and stay up after being briefly above launch twice, however the thermals were tight (even punchy at times) and I didn't feel like turning in close to the trees, not after a long time off flying. Got a nice 9 minutes extended sledder and I'm happy with it. Good launch and landing always helps :)
Glad I went.

Glad to hear that there was some good PG soaring, and at least some extendos for the HG'ers. Would have been a shame if today's temps and sun weren't enjoyed from the air.

Not so convinced that I would have gotten up, feelin' pretty rusty at this point.... But even a sledder would have been more fun than the home-electrical project that I was oh-so-enjoying today, gack!

Congrats to those who got out and flew! Any stopovers at Early Mtn vineyard?
