Flying Monday
I can't quite figure out the weather for Monday. Some forecasts show it strong for PA. Anyone know the status of the Woodstock Road?
Might just end up at Smithsburg.

Re: Flying Monday
Looks like it will be cross at Smithsburg but straight in and strong at the Pulpit. Maybe a slight chance of showers at the end of the day. I'd say get to the Pulpit early. I will be there for wire crew and driver duties. Bacil

I can't either figure out the weather for Monday, so I think I will pass.
Based on the uncertainty for flying, we will be going to take the kids to Bryce for skiing instead.
However, forget about me and don’t get less positive, you might get a great flight tomorrow. And then there is Bacil that has offered to come out to shuttle driver you guys. Thanks Bacil! That is really nice of Bacil and I think chgpa is a great club.

Re: Flying Monday
Thanks to Sunny at Highland, my wing is all fixed up! What a guy!
So naturally I would like to use it tomorrow, unfortunately forecast doesn't seem to go the nice route it was showing earlier. I'll keep my glider on the car for now and hope for the best for tomorrow...maybe we'll get lucky.

Re: Flying Monday
My luck at the Pulpit with a gust-30 in the 'cast isn't the best, so I'm not leaning that way right now (though things could change tomorrow I suppose).
What about Woodstock? Cross from the W, yes, but sometimes that can be OK. Anyone know the road status?

Re: Flying Monday
Yeah, forecast tomorrow looks pretty iffy for every where right now. Some of the winds aloft models are showing some pretty strong stuff 3000'msl and above everywhere.
Pulpit looks potentially blown out with a cold front and precipitation approaching.
Woodstock looks west cross but getting better, as the day goes on. Warmer. But not sure of road status.
High Rock is another option?
Maybe just wait in the morning and see what the latest is. I had a phone number to call for the status of the Woodstock Tower Rd. but I can't find it right now. I'll dig it out for tomorrow morning.

Andy and I are watching as well and will join the crowd. Hope it will be flyable somewhere.

Re: Flying Monday
The Weather Channel hourly forecast for Hagerstown has it WSW at 10 MPH at 11A and W at 12 MPH at noon. The max is W at 13 MPH all afternoon. Anybody want to give it a try (launch) between 11A and noon at the Pulpit? That I believe is the ticket. I can be there by 11A to help wire off whomever. Bacil

Will make decision in the morning.

Re: Flying Monday
Although I'd like to go to the Pulpit since it's much closer to me it looks like Woodstock might be the better call. Warmer, nicer winds, more sun, higher cloud base, etc
What's everybody else thinking?
What's the number to call and check if the gates are open at Woodstock?

Re: Flying Monday
The road at Woodstock is most likely closed. Plus the direction is fcst to be SW most of the day there. Hence the warmer temps. Go with the sure thing. I am hitting the road at 9A so I can be at the Pulpit at 11A. Bacil
Re: Flying Monday
Woodstock Fire Tower Road is closed. I just checked.
Too strong at the Pulpit.
Might go to Smithsburg-- Might just go ride a horse.

Re: Flying Monday
I'd love to go but it's too iffy to venture out so I'll stay put. Damned weather!

Re: Flying Monday
Got to the Pulpit just after 11A. Strong and very sharp edges to the gusts. You didn't miss a thing. Jon met up w/ me at launch and we headed to Smithsburg for a brief look. Watched a turkey vulture soar the hill and climb out in a thermal. Got a bite to eat in Thurmont and hit the road. Bacil

Re: Flying Monday
A good day at Taylor Farm on Monday. I had 4 students two of which were first timers, a second timer, and Anthony who is doing well. Winds were mostly cross some from the right WSW but straighten now and then but got more cross and lighter later in the afternoon. All got some flights in and it was enjoyable teaching them.
