Flying on Sunday
Looks like either Woodstock or High Rock possibly. Any others interested?

Re: Flying on Sunday
Hmmm, tough call. At the moment (Thurs PM), it looks like it will be strong W until late PM on Sunday, and then a switch to WSW or SW.
I'd definitely like to fly this weekend, but not yet sure that the forecast is conducive. And yikes, the 3k 'cast at ADDs is honking!
Guess we'll have to wait and see. Anyone know if the road at Woodstock is open?

I am looking forward to going to Woodstock this Sunday if the conditions are good and someone can observe me.

Woodstock Tower road may be open. I have spoken with a couple vdot people and they have no notice that it is closed.

Re: Flying on Sunday
Things are looking a little bit more encouraging than they were Thursday. W@10-15G25, and the huge gusts have disappeared from the NWS hourly.
But OTOH, the ADDS 3k at 18Z is still honkin' like a flock a' south-bound geese, *smile*.
I'm kinda gearing myself up for a go-out-and-see, maybe-we'll-fly type of day. Mid 40's, not too shabby. But I'm not getting my hopes up at this point!
One good thing if it turns out to be flyable : Maybe I'll be less snarky on-line

Yes, some air time should do us good
Looks like it'll be in the 50's!
Hoping for a great day on Sunday.

NOAA is showing dead West for Woodstock tomorrow. Am I missing something?
Re: Flying on Sunday
Will check forecast on Sunday-- if gust factor is down, we're in.

The ADDS 3k forecast seems more encouraging than it was yesterday. But OTOH, the NWS surface 'cast is now mentioning gusts to 30. That's not necessarily a show-stopper, especially for Woodstock... But remember, it could be one of those "Maybe we get to fly, maybe we don't" days.
(Bring a book/kindle/tablet, just in case! *smile*)
I think I will pass on the day. All the forum bullsh*t lately has me in a less-than-positive place, so I'll just get some other stuff done tomorrow.
But I'll look forward to some photos/clips of the day!!!

Re: Flying on Sunday
Forget the forum Mark - come out and play! It'll clear your mind, even if we end up reading a book on a mountain...
I'm all ready to go with an ETA around 11 - 11:30
Andy told me he's in as well.
Hope the weather is on our side.

Re: Flying on Sunday
National Weather Service says this: Today Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. West wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
25 gusts are a bit high (but not 35) but I'm on the way hoping it'll be tamer...I probably wouldn't venture out in a single surface but hoping for decent double surface conditions.

Re: Flying on Sunday
I am going to Woodstock. Having some trouble with Weather Underground today but occasionally I get 14 WNW at 12:00 and decreasing to 11 at 3:00 for Winchester. ETA Bridge field at 11:30 ish. If you don't go you can't fly and considering what we usually encounter at the site it will probably be lighter. Call me if you want to drop off a car.

Re: Flying on Sunday
Conditions were good today. There were actually some pretty long lulls. Gusts as high as 15 MPH, besides that pretty mild winds with a West cross. Everyone that flew said it was pretty turbulent up there and 3 of the 5 launches looked a little dicey as they were clearing the slot.
Everyone flew but me, I tried - unfortunately I ended up hitting every rock at Launch for about 20 feet or so with my glider and legs. After yelling Clear I started my launch and TRIPPED on my second step. I can't remember that last time I tripped (doing anything) so this surprised me to say the least. I was going to blame the rocky launch area for this, but watching the video I now think it was my right foot hitting my left heel that did me in. I'm all fine except some bruises and a hurt ego - the glider is OK, will need a new side wire, tail and some sail tape for the scratch on the left outer leading edge. It's not a great situation but could of been much worse. Small mistakes in our sport sure takes big tolls.
Thank you all for your help getting the glider back up and glad everyone else had some nice, safe flights.

Re: Flying on Sunday
Glad to hear you are OK Felix.
Be sure to take a good look at the leading edges even if things look alright from the initial inspection. You may even want to take it down to Blue Sky and have Steve give it the once over.

Re: Flying on Sunday
Thanks Matthew.
I already called Sunny about getting it fixed. (it'll need some Aeros parts, cable and tail). I'll probably have a sail off inspection as well - however the only part of the leading edge that had contact with the ground was where it got scraped by a taller rock on the left leading edge close to the tip wand. I kind of floated a bit over the rocks (while scraping my legs on them) and stopped lower, the glider never nosed in. As I said, this sucks but it could of been worse...I'll take my losses and lessons from it and hope not to repeat this in the future.
You guys better not go out flying before I get a chance to fix my wing!
