OT: X-mas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Saturnalia, Festivus Party!!!

Post by Matthew »

Hey,

I got a phone call from good ol' Alan Hobner asking when the next meeting will be held. Anyone remember Alan???

So when and where is this season's party of debauchery to celebrate the holidays? I think it's supposed to be on Friday, Dec. 13th. But where???

Wait a minute! Good that you brought in the Romans, but you forgot Mawlid (the Prophet's B-Day). OK, doesn't come until January this year, but we still gotta celebrate.

I'm hurt, Matthew. You're the one who suggested my house, and you don't remember?

I accepted, and of course the offer still stands.

The meeting minutes confirm the 13th.

Woo-Hoo --- X-mas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Saturnalia, Mawlid, Festivus Party at David's House!!!

Thanks for hosting!!!

We'll all air our grievances and demonstrate our feats of strength around the Festivus Pole!!! And I know you have a Festivus Pole.

I'll bring some medicine balls and stability ball for the Feats of Strength. Do you have a pull-up bar??? Whoever can bench press the host the most wins the Feats of Strength!

The Festivus pole will be up by 7 p.m. Friday (early-birds are welcome). Matthew is in charge of organizing the feats of strength. The airing of grievances (no organizing necessary) will start early and escalate with the consumption of alcohol.

We've got a 3-liter Bota Box of Malbec ready to be unscrewed. I'll pick up some beer, too. Feel free to supplement this with your own. And if we don't open it, go ahead and take it home.

On the food-front, we'll have a simple salad, and meat and veggie nibbleys. There'll be plenty of table space for whatever you might want to bring.

Don't be shy in the house. If you need something in the kitchen, just look for it. Open drawers, the fridge, whatever. Go ahead and spread out if necessary. No level of the house will be off-limits. If it gets crowded on the main level, the basement is warm and open--if a little spartan. And there are lots of power tools to play with.

Bring your videos for the big screen.

We're about a 15-minute walk from the Virginia Square and Clarendon subway stations. There's plenty of free parking in the neighborhood (after 5 p.m.). 3208 5th St. North, Arlington 22201.

That's too bad. What's a X-mas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Saturnalia, Festivus Party without a French horn accompaniment?

For the rest of you, the weather has cooperated, and my front steps aren't a sheet of ice. So entering and exiting will be a low-risk affair. Beer and soda are chillin' on the back deck. Wine is ready to be tapped, and the Festivus pole is up. Let the party begin!

Thanks for cross-posting. I'm coming, maybe or maybe not with Sallie, but I think with Matthew and pizza. - Hugh
