Woodstock Friday Nov 8th

Post by krryerson »

Just starting a new topic to be sure that people know that there might be flying on Friday at Woodstock.
It looks now like there might be NW winds on Friday; but, we will see!
Like Alex, I was also sorry I couldn't join you guys this past weekend.
Nevertheless, hoping for great day at Woodstock on Friday, Nov 8th and I am planning to be there at 11AM. We will see!

Strong forecast (20 mph at launch) but can't argue about the direction. If it doesn't ramp-up or screw-up in any number of ways, I'm in. Ward

I am interested...I can be there by 2:00pm...which may be a little bit late, but if an observer is back by 5:00pm, I can still have a good fly by the end of the day :)

5 PM is now about time the sun sets with the hour change...sad but true, the days are short.
I'm lookin' at flying this weekend as well, after missing the fest y'all had last weekend.
I'll be at Highland Saturday, hopefully it's flyable since it'll be the last chance there for the year and I'm definitely going to Woodstock - either Friday or Sunday, I'm torn between picking the best day of the 2. Damn ever-changing weather. Prognosis seems to change by the hour...

As of noon today, tomorrow’s forecasts have upped both the surface and aloft wind velocities for WS, compared to last night’s predictions. If the new forecasts hold, those speeds translate into a significant amount of time just parked above the ridge. I’m considering flying at Highland on Saturday (light SW winds) instead of WS tomorrow if the wind velocity forecasts don’t drop. Felix, thanks for the heads up about this weekend being the last for Highland's 2013 season. Ward

PS. Sunday’s forecasts for winds aloft at WS have also been increased.

As of now Sunday looks blown out at WS (according to Dr. Jacks) - tomorrow is strong but hopefully doable.
I'll confirm in the AM for sure. ETA around 12 PM if it's a go.

Hi,
It looks like I will not be going to WS tomorrow, Friday, Nov 8th, for many reasons....
But, are now planning on going to WS on Sunday, if weather permits it. I will be there early, Sunday morning, around 11AM.
It seems like both days will probably be flyable; but now Sunday works out better for me. Sorry!
Again, we will see and it seems like there will be plenty of pilots out on Sunday, or?

A. Dr. Jack's is useless for anything more than one day out.

B. Woodstock effect.

Not flying today. Surface wind forecasts have increase since last night and they are now predicting gusts up to 30 mph. Planing on going to Highland tomorrow. Ward

Been lurking pending spousal approval to have the weekend. I am available to observe and pre-positioned at Linden - but with a cautious attitude about windspeed/turbulence for myself and any observer.

Well I guess I'll stay and work today instead of going flying and hope for better conditions on Sunday. Looks about the same for now...
Dr. Jacks has been as reliable as any other weather forecasts for 2 days out from what I've seen, however it's all a crap shoot until the day of.
It may be good/flyable at WS today, may be blown out...I really can't make a good call so I'm out.
If anyone is going please post your experience, I'm curious how it'll turn out.
Felix.

I am bailing on flying today. Looks too strong until very late. Headed to Dickey's Saturday if the forecast holds.
