Highland Saturday 10/5

Post by Lostgriz »

It looks like I will probably try to head over tonight or tomorrow morning with my boys. Fly Saturday, stay the night and then do a little fishing and disc golf on Sunday. Hope to see some of you there.

Wish I could make it, but I used up my pass last weekend [solo weekend] . The bass were hitting rattle traps , rubber worms and spinners, same spot as always. Have fun and get good and high.

Looking at Highland for tomorrow provided that the forecasts don't take a nosedive.... Might even load up the vehicle tonight! *smile *

Wing is on the vehicle, camping gear packed, and cameras charging!

Also preparing major post-flight snackage : Cooler packed with cheese, crackers, apples, guac, tomatoes, chips, salsa, grapes, pistachios, plus anything else I can think of last-minute tomorrow AM.

Oh... And beer!

Let's get out to Highland and have some FUN tomorrow, woo-hoo!!!!

A beautiful warm day there. A lot of solo pilots and quite a few tandems. Had to wait 45 minutes once I got in line for tow but Jim dropped me off under a nice cloud that was mildly working and got better. Got another good cloud over the junk yard and several near the river. When I headed back toward the field got nothing. Still had a very nice flight of 1:15 and at least 4400 agl.

Super fun weekend at Highland Aerosports. I brought my boys with me late Friday night and we crawled into bed around 2am. We slept in and then headed into Ridgely for breakfast. After filling our bellies, we hit the bass pond and got skunked, but had fun letting Duncan practice casting. I waited around until probably 1:30 before launching. I circled in light lift for probably 25 minutes before heading to the Tech park where I found a nice little thermal that took me from a 1000' to around 4700', climbing above cloudbase on the edge of a cloud. I stayed within a few miles of the airport most of the flight, enjoying plenty of quality time at cloudbase. My flight was around 1:40. When I landed the sky still looked great, but I was satisfied with a very fun flight, so I grabbed the boys and we swam for a while and then air dried while we watched others fly. Beautiful Day! Pizza and wings, frisbee and ping pong, fell asleep watching a movie in the trailer. Eating breakfast in Ridgely now and heading to Tuckahoe for 18 holes of disc golf. Life is good!

As John and Matt have indicated, Saturday was another very good day in a string of many at Highland. Here are some photos of my flight starting with the tow, one of the climbs and its landing sequence. Ward

Daniel,

We swam in the pool at Highland and it felt great to me, very refreshing.

Here are a few pics from my flight.

I'm trying to figure out which of these great photos best shows me grovelling on the deck, mega-sigh!

A bit of a disappointing weekend (35 min Sat; 20 min Sun) for me, partly just wrong-place/wrong-time, partly poor decisions on my part.... But hey, it was sunny and warm and the camaraderie was great so it's hard to whine eh?

Lots of tandems and lots of students flights and was great to be yanked up by Jim (da best!) in challenging conditions. Topped off the weekend in Annapolis with friends and a great crab cake dinner, life is good!
