Looking forward to flying the new U2. I am hoping to get there early and catch a flight in the morning before things ramp up. And then catch a soaring flight later in the day. Looking forward to seeing some pilots out there.
Anyone else planning on arriving earlyish............say 1030-11
Jon, I am hoping to go to Woodstock on Friday and can be there around 11A. Nevertheless, will not know for sure before Thursday evening. Will let you know ASAP.
So, Woodstock tomorrow does looks pretty good.
Winds are nice and only partial sun but Dr.Jack shows thermals around 450 fpm, a bit blown around by the winds, cloud base around 4000"+-
I'm not 100% in yet but probably.
Looks like there might be 5-6 of us out there tomorrow?
Woodstock was spectacular today. Had my best flight there yet - almost 4 hours (minus 5 minutes, I was tired, cold, last one to land...)
Got to 5650 MSL, flew to both ends of the ridge, crossed the Gap, flew with eagles...thought abut going for a little XC - would of been a nice day for it. Maybe next time.
Awesome to see other pilots out, total of 6 flew.
What a day!
Woodstock served up just what I was looking for. It was a pretty dynamic day with about 1000 different looking skies before it was all said and done. I had hoped to get there and sneak in a mellow first mountain flight in on the new U2 before things throttled up but I was just a bit late. The switch got flipped at about 1030am with gusts going from 8mph to 22mph......just as I was finishing my final preflight I moved the glider to a more protected spot and let the waiting game begin. Wasn't too bad at all on such a beautiful day and in the meantime I was able to help launch Andy, Felix, Gary and Steve...all of which had wonderful flights. What I was looking for finally came around 445pm. A strong launch and I was soaring in braindead conditions that had pretty much gone magic with some thermals still around. Scchhweeeet it was!! I had to core sink to get down so I wasn't TOO late to the meeting...sorry everyone, hope you understand Had a nice landing in the primary to finish things off.
All in all just what I was looking for on my first U2 mountain flight. Good day!
Congratulations on tbe first mountain flight with your U2! I have a ton of respect for your approach to flying and getting dialed into your new glider. Glad you got the flight you were looking for.
