CHGPA Movie Night and Contest
All club members,
Lets get together and have a good time!! We would like to have a CHGPA Movie Night that incorporates our club members love of free flight on a personal level. Along with viewing some mass produced free flight media, we would also like to showcase some of YOUR videos of flying some of OUR beautiful sites. What better way to do that, than in a fun contest format?
It would go something like this: We pick a venue that would support us and our family and friends( two possibilities are outlined below). We have our pilots submit videos of themselves, of a pre-determined length, in a pre determined format, flying our sites, or sites they have flown on their travels. We pick a date to gather at our chosen venue to view the videos and have a good time. We watch the video clips, along with some other free flight media, and vote on a winner. Prizes are awarded and good times are had. Invite your family and friends. It will be a party. There will be a nominal “ticket” price to help the club offset the costs and have cash prizes for the video contest winners.
We will vote on two things regarding this CHGPA Movie Night and Contest at the membership meeting on Sept 13, 2013.
1) Should we have a CHGPA Movie Night and Contest?
2) What venue should we choose? There are two below that will be presented. If you have another to add to the list please feel free to. Please be prepared to discuss in detail your idea at the meeting…..it would be a good idea to post to this thread on the forum any information you have about the venue)
Venue Options:
1) Arlington Cinema and Draft House- located in Arlington, VA
Fee is a $500 rental fee and $1500 food and beverage minimum (meaning we would be responsible to pay whatever balance short of $1500 remains at the end of the evening). Lighting and microphones are an additional $175
Their capacity is 285
There is a stage and “room” inside the theater
They rent out the theater on Wednesday evenings from 615pm-915pm
It is 21 years or older but minors can be accompanied by their parent
They do serve alcohol and have a full food menu
2) West End Cinema- located in Georgetown
Fee is $750 for 75 seat theater OR $850 for 95 seat theater
There is an option to rent out a Reception Space for $550 (seats 75 people)
They rent out the theater for 3 hours on Sunday thru Thursday. Rental time is 6pm-9pm, 630pm-930pm, or 7pm-10pm
There is no extra charge for basic AV equipment
You are allowed to eat and drink food that you bring in, inside the theater but it is just a “regular” theater seat. If you bring your own beverage it must be non-alcoholic.
They have a full bar and drink tickets can be purchased for $8 per drink
You can hire an outside licensed dealer to supply alcohol
