To all CHGPA pilots, It is so awesome that our area is going to be well represented at the US Nationals! You too can be a part of the festivities this year as we are running a modified Calcutta as a fund raising effort for the Cloudbase Foundation (CBF) and the Big Spring Rainbow Room, which helps poor children in Big Spring.
In the past we have formed a number of competitive teams balanced on skill set and ranking. The night before the competition would start, the pilots would openly bid on the team that they thought would have the highest cumulative score at the end of the meet (Best 3 individual scores for the team each day). The pilot bidding the most money for each team, owned that team and if their team won, they would get half of the proceeds while the other half went to the CBF.
This served us well and helped to raise significant funds that were donated to a local charity. However it restricted the potential winners to just the person who bid the most money on the winning team. This year we hope to change things up a bit by going to a bid process where all bidders are potential winners.
For $50 or more you may bid on any team you wish. You can even bid on multiple teams (minimum $50 each). At the end of the comp, the team with the highest cumulative score will still win. Half of all proceeds will still go to the Cloudbase Foundation however this year the other half will be spilt proportionally among all of the people who bid on the winning team.
In addition, people are just donating an amount designated for a team and the whole amount goes to the Rainbow Room. See here: http://sdrv.ms/1576emx
See the link to the spreadsheet that shows the six teams here: http://sdrv.ms/1576emx. Note that the Sport pilots are on the teams too. With seven area pilots (one former) headed to the Nats, I thought it would be cool if some of you had the opportunity to bid on your favorites.
Pat Halfhill is on the same team as Zac Majors and Davis Straub. Matt Christiansen is with Attila Bertok (former world champion) and Larry Bunner (future world champion, lol). Pete Lehmann is with Robin Hamilton (current US champion) and Bruce Barmakian. Peter Kane is with US World team pilot Mitch Shipley and current 2012 OLC world champion Kris Grzyb. Tom McGowan and Dave Proctor are with WW sailmaker Matt Barker and Benn Dunn (surely this team is gonna rock!).
You can follow the results each day here: http://ozreport.com/2013USNationals.php or even real time for the pilots that have Spot Trackers: http://www.flytrace.com/Tracker/map.aspx?group=156. Calcutta results will be updated here: http://sdrv.ms/1576rpQ
We realize $50 is a lot to ask for a bid but you can band together if you like to place a bid. We pilots thank you, the Cloudbase Foundation thanks you, but most importantly the children from the Rainbow Room in Big Spring thank all of us for getting involved and helping them in their time of need.
You can submit a bid to Davisstraub@davisstraub.com

Bun,
It looks like you have a Norwegian pilot on your team? Olav Lien Olsen. If so, you have a strong team there (smile). I did fly with Olav in the 1990's in Norway, before he started to kick A.
I am not on facebook, so if you don't mind, tell Olav to contact at 703- nine- six- six- 78- seven- seven.
Thanks and have fun!
