Flying mountains Saturday, July 20th

Post by jyoder111 »

What do you all think? What are the chances Daniels or Woodstock might be flyable Saturday? Hot with chance of rain showers, but they should be transient (every hot humid day this time of year has chance of rain). Woodstock looks WNW after 4pm. Daniels looks SW to WSW. Is there too much W component in the Daniel's forecast? Anyone interested?

decisions decisions...

Here's what I posted on the PG forum

Winds aloft are higher tomorrow so I'm hoping to fly Sunday. But I do have a serious jones to get outside. How about we plan a hike/cleanup/picnic at Dickeys on Saturday and bring our wings just in case? We could checkout the state of Hogback and maybe cleanup there too.

But you have a hang glider so maybe the winds aloft don't bother you. Come to Dickeys. The wind direction is ideal and ill help you hike your glider in! It's beautiful.

Ah crap. Well we could go anyways. I doubt I will fly so I could let you borrow my card. You never need it, but just in case.

Wish I saw this earlier, might of been interested in Dickey's. Got the park permit and never used it...yet...
I may be interested in going still, but probably won't be able to make it there till pretty late in the day.

We have a bonafide cold front approaching and an upper level disturbance that is kicking off storms to our west this morning. Maybe it will pass early and the evening will be nice, but with the cold front approaching it might not. I'll keep watching.

http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php ... hlight=off

CURRENT FEELING IS THAT
THE ATMOSPHERE MAY BE CAPPED EARLY THIS AFTERNOON BEHIND THE
DEPARTING SHORTWAVE...CAUSING ANY THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE TO BE
ISOLATED OR SCATTERED. HOWEVER...WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS TO OUR NORTH AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT MAY PROPAGATE
SOUTH INTO OUR AREA LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. DESPITE
RELATIVELY WEAK SHEAR...THERE IS ENOUGH INSTABILITY FOR THE
POTENTIAL OF LOCALLY DAMAGING WIND GUSTS...LARGE HAIL AND LOCALLY
HEAVY RAINFALL IN ANY THUNDERSTORMS THAT DEVELOP.
