Wills Wing Demo Days

Post by Dunegoon »

Got to talk to Steve P. today about the new WW Alpha. It will replace the Condor as a new training/first glider. It is certified and is suitable for high flight. It can fly as slow or slower than a paraglider. Of course the L/D is not great, but the effective soaring performance is very good because of the ability to work small areas of lift. Did not get a chance to fly it because the WX on the Outer Banks did not cooperate. Reportedly easier to fly than a Falcon and out climbs a T2C!

I got a first hand account about the Alpha from Steve's daughter who took lessons at Lookout Mountain. In just a few days she was able to launch from the mountain ramp. She has now transitioned to the F4, and the Alpha prepared her well. She is the same age as my daughter and Steve had some sage advice about dealing with teen issues. My daughter did well with basic HG training, but has no desire move on.

Steve also showed me the new ultra light cocoon harness. It is very compact and comfortable. It will be very popular with recreational pilots. If I knew how to post pictures I would. Why bother with the complexity of a pod if you are just boating around or flying for fun. Has a strap to keep it close while standing and launching.

Also got some great tuning tips for my Eagle. We also talked about how to improve landing techniques. It hurts my back when I do a full stall pogo stick landings. He suggested a more of "pushing a cart" landing if possible with a small run out. Steve also had some kind things to say about Dan TW, and I mentioned the fact that we have the pleasure to fly with Dan and his beautiful U2. Not a bad way to start a vacation, just hope I get some airtime this week.

Charley,
Most have been fun talking to the WW team and Steve P. I did meet Larry Tudor back in 1995 and talking to him was very interesting. But this is more history then news... . In any case, for does that don't check Wills Wing News: There is still a chance to meet the Wills Wing Team this year at the Lookout Mountain from 7/3/2013 to 7/6/2013. See http://www.willswing.com/demodays.asp
Unfortunately I can't go this year, but would love to go to a Demo Day soon... .
