Taylor Hill 6/29
Finally looking like a pretty good weekend day at Taylor Hill - I'll give it a shot and test out my Discus.
Anyone else interested?

I'm planning on it and John Middleton is planning on teaching there I believe.

I'm debating Daniels vs Taylor vs Highland for tomorrow. Won't make the call until tomorrow AM... But a t-hill day couldn't hurt so it's at least on my radar!

Looks like it's taking a turn for the worse...S winds and %50 chance of rain.
Do S winds work OK for Taylor or that's too much cross?
I'd hate to drive 2:30 hours away to a hill and not get to train...
Will make the call in the AM.

Looks SSW today as of this morning. Taylors can take South winds though you can get turbulence off the trees to the left and you have to wait around for good cycles. Landing a double surface there can actually be easier if you have some cross because you can land into the wind at an angle across the field and not straight toward the fence.

Thanks Jesse.
I'm on my way. ETA 10:30 or so.
Might try Daniels afterwards if it's looking good.

Fun day at Taylors. Wind was more West and NW than SW for most of the day. Weird. Decent enough cycles to get some good flights in. Good to see so many gliders there and some solid performance by John's students.

Jesse, that Falcon looks cool!
Great to finally make it out to Taylor Hill. Great site, got various conditions, an awesome day to be out, LOTS of gliders there.
I sacrificed some sweet flying at Highland today for training but it was very much needed. Looking forward to flying the mountains with the Discus!

OK, Jesse got me inspired and put my 3 takeoffs together as well. I took about 6 flights but only those made it: camera-remote issues.
Still, I'm glad to have those.

Great to meet you as well Rich, looking forward to flying the awesome mountain sites we got here together.
Note about the training hill;
I saw several ticks around my stuff yesterday while out. When I got home my wife found 2 of them on my head, latched on, several more in my HG stuff. You guys might want to check yourselves out.

Re: Taylor Hill 6/29
What is it with the ticks this year? Rarely do we find ticks at the glider port but almost every WE this season someone's reported pulling tick off of them selves!
I'm sure that if John was teaching at Taylor (and with all those Falcons around he likely was) then the student's seeing a double surface machine like your Discuss was inspiring. I distinctly remember in the day of SS gliders when 3 Comet's showed up and flew from OR. I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't leave an indelible vision in those student's minds yesterday.

Hi Felix,
Yup had 2 ticks attached - one in arm and one on back! Will check harness etc carefully...!
Danny, want to buy a Falcon, I NEED a Discus... (Although it was apparently a good bit heavier to haul back up the hill than a Falcon)
Cheers
Rich
