Hi ya folks,
Name's Karl and I moved out here to Washington DC this past summer/fall from San Diego for work. Last Spring I started and completed my P-2 but have not been able to fly since July of last year. I just received my newish PG(a skywalk Tequilla3) in the mail today and am just itching to get myself reacquainted with flying. I do have an H-2 with about 50hours logged, but thinking I want to stick to my transition to PG.
A few questions to the people flying out here though are more related to where someone of my skill should be flying(I have never flown a mountain site before, as I typically just flew off the shoreline in San Diego). I read through the H2/P2 Protocol Guide and saw the list of PG observers, but is the system set up so that each observer covers a particular site or is it a pretty relaxed system based on where people are flying that weekend?
On a final note, are there pilots who commute to sites from a DC metro-able location? I actually do not have a car at the moment, so if someone needs a carpool buddy, or just wants to pick up a random pilot with 50million questions(but will pay for their gas/beer), let me know. I'm flexible on Saturdays and Sundays so would be wiling to be very very accommodating.
Can't wait to fly with everyone and hope to see you in the air soon!
Karl

Re: PG greetings
Hi Karl. Congrats on the P2 and new wing. Yes, we carpool which is a great way get all your questions answered and get a site intro. For observers, we just go to whichever site looks good. Since you're new to the mountains we'd have you fly early or later in the afternoon when the air is less active, but also because we want to fly ourselves. Do you have any thermalling experience PG or HG, or has all of your flying been ridge soaring? If not it would be good to find an instructor to get more experience in active air - I can help you locate some if needed. I'm willing to help you start, but I also want to fly and don't have the experience an instructor could provide.
Shoot me an email or give me a call and I'll try to help with any other questions you have.
