Folks this is the official 2013 Pulpit Fly In thread. Please post all communications and questions here.
Lets see if we can revive some of the spirit of past Fly Ins!!! We need your participation to make it happen. I am looking for a couple of volunteers to take on a few necessary tasks. Can you please let me know if you would like to help out?
We need people for:
1) Site prep-----make sure grass is cut and launch is clean for launching, cooking, hanging out and camping.
2) Grill prep-----make sure we have one, or two would be great, operational grills,(and gas/charcoal)
3) Event within the event------raffle, spot landing contest.......any ideas, what do you think??
Please jump in and let me know if you can help out. We would like to do this Fly In, rain or shine. No rain dates. May 11-12 is it. Put it on your calendars and lets make it good time hanging with your fellow pilots, family, and friends!!

Jon,
At every Pulpit fly in that I've attended the raffles have been a big hit. Everybody likes the chance to win something and sometimes the local companies will contribute modest prizes if someone gets in touch with them in advance. Sell a few tickets, contribute the revenues to the Pulpit maintenance fund, give away a few prizes and maybe one big one like a wrist watch vario or something.
I'm not personally a fan of spot landing contests. They typically create more than their share of scrap metal.
Bragging rights XC contests are always popular. Who can make it to Emma Jane's field this year? Will a PG pilot do it for the first time?
Dan

Tom McG might not like the spotlight.... But I have to send out some public kudos, he headed up to the Pulpit today, chainsaw in hand and sans-glider, to do some site cleanup on his own! Wow, dude, way to go!

Mark is right. I called Tom to see about flying Sunday and he told me he was on launch at Z Pulpit... I said "you're kidding" thinking he left me behind in doing some flying. He said "No I'm not kidding. I thought I'd just do my part and clean some at the Pulpit"
Wow! he's a righteous dude... He didn't even bring his glider. That's why I'm going flying with him today as He's now got his Mojo working.
Thanks to Tom and all who work our web and our sites

Wow, Richard, stepping up and offering those prizes/discounts for the raffle is just great! In fact, you might *BE* the raffle, from what I'm hearing so far... Kudos to you my friend!
And we need to hear from our membership too. Not for the raffle per se, but simply to know if/when/whether any pilots are going to participate in the event.
We NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU if you are planning to attend the Fly-In.
We NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU if you can volunteer in some way (firewood? grill? trash hauling? recycling? food? drink? whatever....)
We NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU so that the planners have at least a rough idea of what the Fly-In turn-out might be.
So... Post here, and let us know if the fuel is going to be on the fire for this year's Fly-In!!!!!

Liz and I are planning on coming, as long as it doesn't look like rain all weekend. We have a brand new table-top gas camping grill that we can bring.
Also, I think it would be great to schedule a time to get everybody together for a Fly-In group photo at some point.

I'll be there, either with my wife or alone, not sure yet.
I'll keep up with this thread to see what's needed and will bring something.

I'll be there, if either day is looking flyable!
Re: The Pulpit Fly-In May 11-12, 2013
I should be there both days! Hopefully Rich or a few of the other observers will be there to make my inaugural launch (well 2nd after 30 years). I will post later with a food item. Thanks.

I plan on coming. I can bring food or something if needed.
Re: The Pulpit Fly-In May 11-12, 2013
Nice of Tom to step in, but really there should be a work party the week or so before, where EVERYONE shows up and get the job done.

Re: The Pulpit Fly-In May 11-12, 2013
btw, if it looks remotely flyable I plan to come. If it looks nicely flyable I *might* have some new yorkers coming down.

Re: The Pulpit Fly-In May 11-12, 2013
When I was at the Pulpit this weekend, the setup area looked pretty good. The grass is only a couple inches high. There might be some growth between now and the Fly-in, but I don't think we need a work party or anything beforehand.

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time all the trees down below launch were whacked into submission? I prefer at least 4 feet of growth between me and the rocks but it's been so long I'm wondering if they've passed the height of self extraction.

Re: The Pulpit Fly-In May 11-12, 2013
Brian, the trees are still at a level where the rocks are your main hazard. They're getting close to haircut length, though. Maybe this fall after the summer's heat.

Re: The Pulpit Fly-In May 11-12, 2013
A real charcoal or gas bbq would be great. But between Jesse's grill and my camp stove with griddle, we probably have enough carnivorous grilling capability. I'm guessing Matthew and Karen will bring their veggie-friendly grill to round that out.
David Bodner
Re: The Pulpit Fly-In May 11-12, 2013
Yes. We will bring a veggie - friendly grill and some veggie burgers. Are we doing the whole food shebang this year like in the old-timey days?
If so, I still have the old grocery list and I can pick up the food if the club will re-imburse.
It's the usual unhealthy assortment of burgers, dogs, buns, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, condiments, pasta salad, potato salad, pies, chips, dips, sodas, cups, paper plates, napkins, hand sanitizer and plastic wear.
