We are busy Saturday-- looks East on Sunday. Anyone up for Bill's Hill? We may need to do some slot work. I"ll bring my cordless weed whacker and extra batteries-- plus machetes and pruners.

Ouch: looks lovely, but... with prior promises made, I am a doubtful for today, and in any case would not get to Bill's before later PM. But I am wondering, 1) where area all the hangies? and 2) where are all the H2's who could use some practice on Bill's forgiving terrain?

Yep, WS on Sat sounded like outrageous fun, and re: Bill's today, just read that Matt Ingram flew far and Krista and maybe others frolicked there today. Maybe PGer's only?.., have not yet read any aluminum tube acc'ts. My thought is that I see a succession of E/NE/SE/ENE/ESE/etc/etc days ahead, and maybe some hangies will yet head toward Bill's ? Yes, also think weekedays! And advise some of us your thoughts? Without another 2 or 3 pilots and HG-equipped cars, hard to see it happening. --John

I had two flights. The first was only a 10 min. flight trying to catch thermal bubbles. Thanks to Karen and Matthew for waiting for me and getting me quickly back to launch. I launched immediately the second time and yoyo'd at ridge height before connecting with a screamer that when straight up. I saw a 5 m/s blip on the vario and had a hell of a time staying in it. It felt like rodeo riding and by the end of the flight I was exhausted and cold.

I flew 26 miles in 2 1/2 hours. I had a nice low save 400 feet over the ground all the way back to 6k msl. Landed before the really wide Pot Ridge/Gallitzin State Forest south of Blue Knob (which I hear is the highest ski resort in PA). It's the last jump before Johnstown airport which is class D, but is active enough to remain towered. I didn't have it's airspace marked, but will next time.

I used my "Hang glider Needs Ride" sign and got 3 rides back to Breezewood where I met Peter V, Petr, and Austin. One ride was with a a nice lady who a physician encouraged me to get 2 IUs of Vitamin D a day and continue hiking with my paraglider on my back to strengthen my bones. Too much time in the office really is killing us. 8)

I'm hoping to log this flight as my first in the Region 9 contest. I hope we get some more PG pilots in the competition.

Nice flight Matt! From the video and checking my relief map you were over the town of New Enterprise between Tussey and Dunning Mountains. So you landed before Allegheny Mountain I take it? Were you near the town of Lovely 8) ? Thanks, Bacil

Thanks for the landmark identification! The valley between Tussey and Dunning mountains was really pretty. I did land just north of Lovely right before Allegheny Mountain. That mountain is a big fat one with windmills on top. I needed to be there much earlier in the day to try to jump it, but I arrived after 5pm and the sun was shaded. Too bad we couldn't get an earlier start due to the north cross.

I was first off on Sunday. It was clearly HG soarable with a north cross suppressing the ridge left accompanied by boowah bullet thermals. There were two old time HG pilots there, who waited for the winds to shift more easterly. Unfortunately the winds shifted very late and the elevator ride ups were nowhere to be seen.

I got hammered shortly after turning left out of the slot and took the first one of probably several collapses. Not long after the first shot I was riding a bucking bronco to 1,200 or so above launch. I left it and several others on purpose.

It would have been a great day for the PA boys to pull some big miles. I was a bit surprised that we didn't see any of them. I hope they had good flights elsewhere.

PS to John Anderson and any other HG pilots.

The PG pilots in this club will not leave you stranded. If you can get to launch with your wing you can easily get a body ride from the LZ with any of us, just ask.
