Blue Sky Sunday 4/14

Post by sailin »

Had a chance to fly at Blue Sky on Sunday. As usual , Steve was a great host and there was a great turnout of gliders. We had truck towing and aerotow operations underway for most of the day. Lisa, the tug pilot, was great and a joy to tow behind.
The wind started out as light and variable before it settled in to decidely north with a bit of east in it. In the afternoon it switched to south with east in it. Velocity remained pretty low for most of the day. No cummies and there was some high cloud cover that was threatening to cover things up. The lift was spotty, punchy and ratty and it was a hit or miss type of day. I topped out 850' above the tow release for a max altitude of 2850' msl. Was very busy most of the flight trying to stay in what I found. Turned out to be a very enjoyable flight.
It was great to see all the gliders out there and meet some new people. I paid the price for all the socializing in the sun with a pretty good sunburn everywhere that wasn't covered up  Fun day. I am looking forward to getting back down there and flying soon.

Sorry I missed out.

I was there Saturday with Paul and John. Everyone soared with Paul and I getting an hour. It took three truck tows for me to stick, (as usual) but with Paul schooling me (great job Paul!) I was able to find lift. Paul did an outstanding job highlighting the lift line back to the airport from 3-4 miles away. I flew downwind to Tappahanock airport (where I hit 700 down) after freezing at 5600'. Thanks again Paul for the retrieve!

Great to see you again John and Jon, and tell Amy sorry for her loss but thanks for sporting the first LBD (to my knowledge) at bluesky. I can't even get my wife to go, much less dress up. Maybe it's a trend?
