Woodstock Saturday April 13th

Post by XCanytime »

Looking quite good. Maybe a good day to try and fly upwind a few miles past 81 and land at North Mountain Vineyards, where the Silent Airshow is scheduled to occur a week later. Bacil

Yes, it looks great for Saturday.
Planning to go out flying HG on Sat and are counting on Woodstock this time.
Hoping to leave home early.

Looks west-ish. Gonna say I'm not coming and go anyway. The opposite of what I usually do.

Oobs, yes, I see "W at 13 mph" on weather.com. Hopefully the wind forecast's will change again, between now and Sat.

Woodstock is flyable in a west wind. However, much more care should be taken in choosing a cycle to launch in, turning left into the crossing wind after exiting the slot, and possibly finding an alternate LZ to land in because the primary is more challenging to land in if the surface winds are west. Looks to me that the 14th will be the better day. Most likely the Pulpit with WNW winds at 11mph.

Got my eye on WS Saturday as well... The text NWS sfc forecast is calling for a strong gust 30 day. If that comes to pass, be aware that odds of being able to fly might only be 50-50. The Woodstock effect isn't a certainty above 25.

But I'll probably go out for a look as long as the forecasts don't increase further.

And yet another forecast has it going west by 6PM. I'm still looking Mark. Can't go Sunday. Call me. I would be going after getting off of work and not getting there until 3P+ anyway. Bacil

Tomorrow's conditions will tell the tale.... I won't be deciding yay/nay until Sat AM, and might even wait for the 10am updates before making the call.

Maybe we'll luck into two flyable days!

I'm gonna try Elizabethville tomorrow unless the forecast changes a lot....If anyone wants to join me my number is 732.208.9701. It's about three hours north of Gaithersburg. Faces west with a kiss of north, and requires the Hyner waiver.

Latest is now W@10-15, with the 3k fcst swinging SW as the day goes on. I wouldn't be on the fence if I lived closer.... But as it is, I'm having a hard time getting excited. Anyone else thinking of going? It will certainly be a beautiful day out there....

Wow-- the forecast has really changed from last night when they were calling for gusts to 30 at WS. Pulpit forecast is still strong. But Highland forecast is only West at 10 and the bay is calling for West at 5-10. Maybe Ridgely????

I'll give them a call.

Elizabtehville was a mixed bag. Shawn and Bob had soaring flights in rough air, each getting a thousandish over and flying to a nearby airport. Brian and I were waiting for a good launch cycle, and he took what we thought was one, but it turned out to be a strong flush cycle and he had to bail. I waited another hour or so after getting him for more mellow conditions but I didn't do much better. Four of us flew, two soared. Thanks to Cookie and Shirley for launch and retrieval help!
