Daniels Saturday 4/6

Post by mingram »

It looks like it will be South in the afternoon. I'm hoping to cleanup Daniels in the morning while waiting for the wind to swing around. Now's a good time to do it while it's not too hot and before things grow. Anyone else?

Greetings Matt, My wife and I would like to help out for a couple of hours but all of my tools are 700 miles from here. Will you have any extra tools with you and what time in the morning are you thinking about? (my vehicle doesn't have clearance so we would need to meet and hitch a ride up). ..::Jim G.

Yeah, we should have some extra tools. I expect there will be a few people with vehicles. I'm hoping to arrive by 11, but that might be too optimistic. I'll check weather at 8am to confirm.

Latest forecast shows it will be SE for most of the day instead of S. Bummer we don't have Edith's Gap cleared yet.

Will make the call in the morning.

Considering Flat Top because the wind looks more predominantly East there. The problem there is that the LZ is very tiny and slopes downhill. I've been there a couple times and haven't flown because it seemed too risky for my skill level. I don't think it's suitable for new P2s.

Bills Hill is a P2 site, but the wind is weaker there and switching from N to S and won't really be E like you need.

Very nice day. Tom flew to Luray. Ellis and I flew Flattop for an hour at least and got to 5500 msl I believe. My 3rd time there and 1st time flying. Ellis had a tricky landing, but pulled it off. She ripped her wing, but we patched it. I top landed and met the nice people above launch. Land there anytime. They love to watch us.

Met Jim and his wife in the LZ.

Then we all flew Daniels too. Jeff, Krista, Randy, and Petr. I was the only one who managed to climb out by agressively turning close to launch and flew for an hour. I think this is my first time flying two mountains in one day. I did a little cutting. We also cleaned up all the carpet. Just finished a fat pizza and beer at Sals.
