March 28th US Forest Service Meeting

Post by PTerry »

Dear CHGPA Membership -- This is a general update on our USFS meeting today.

We had a very good meeting with the US Forest Service Director Ranger Katie Donahue and her staff. There was a good discussion regarding the proposed renovations, upkeep, and long-term maintenance of the Edith's Gap and Woodstock flying sites. We discussed both short term and long-term priorities for the collaborative projects. We covered the USFS' required process, policies, and procedures for any work at these sites. We also covered the arrangements for Club partnership with the USFS to protect, preserve, and maintain these special recreation sites in the years ahead.

We will meet again with the USFS in the weeks ahead to further refine the site renovation projects and communicate back to the Club with more details on what, when, & how we will proceed.

And finally, this was a very positive start to CHGPA's formal partnership with the USFS and the preservation of free flight in National Forest.

Any questions. Please contact me. Patrick F. Terry CHGPA Club Secretary.

Did USFS lay out any notable concerns or priorities with our use of the launch?

Yes, they had many: All legitimate USFS concerns.
The Need for a Single Point of Club Contact, Safety, Site Appearance, Site Maintenance, Trash, LZ Status, Area Property Owners, Town of Woodstock Concerns, and Impact on Other Forest Users.
These will be some of the topics for the next meeting.

Please be assured that even with their many concerns the USFS will continue to maintain their support and ongoing commitment for flying at Woodstock & Edith's

Official USFS Recognized Status: Hang Gliding/Paragliding - Special Recreational Activity
