I'll be in the area on Friday and would enjoy a flying diversion but the forecast is strong SW to S now.

Hi Jon, or should we address you as Mr. President?

Interested in late PM if possible, conditions permitting. I would have to coordinate with an observer. Anyone available? Would like to get some airtime even if it is a sled after being teased at Jack's last weekend. Lets see what the morning WX looks like.

Hi, Jon-

I'm bailing. I didn't have as productive of a day today as I had hoped. If the w/x looked more promising, that probably wouldn't deter me.

Good luck if you go!

Best,

Sounds good Daniel, it doesn't look like you will miss much.....good chance it will be cloudy , and blown out. Look forward to flying with ya some time soon though.

Charley,
hahaha...Jon will do :) :) Even though the forecast doesn't look too promising right now I would still be up for a weather check in the AM and see where we go from there. I can observe you if things work out weather wise. Lets check in the AM and make a call,..... right now looks blown out.

Hows bout we post up what we are seeing around 9am.....looks like if a flight is going to happen its going to be a later in the afternoon one.

I'll watch the chatter mid/late morning and chime in with a WX report from ~High Rock about noon to 1:00 pm. Might just run up to Smithsburg if Mcconnelsburg does not pan out.

Sounds great Danny. The Pulpit is looking blown out to me as of right now.....HGRSTWN has WSW @17mph......even at 5pm. Still a small chance we could squeak an early evening flight in before the sun goes down......but it looks pretty windy there all day.

Long night at work. I am going to catch a few hours of sleep and check back here at around 11am......car is already loaded with glider and gear so if there is flying to be had somewhere I have a quick departure time

all the forecast and current condition reports i am seeing from hagerstown and mcconnelsburg have it blowing south west and completely decked over. Also looks like a good chance of being blown out.
Unless someone is seeing something else or has a strong desire to roll the dice, keep your fingers crossed and hope for an early evening flight (I am always up for a look see) i am pulling the plug on my plans to head up there.
Anybody??

My 11:45am post didn't make it due to some server issue at my end. At Fairfield gliderport now. Strong SW with some S. Fairly sure it will be cross and very strong at Mcconnelsburg. Likely very cross at Smithsburg. Wave looks good. Going to take a tow and fly the sailplane. I'll post how that went later in the eveing.

Well started to set up the sailplane and then noticed the steady 10 to 15 cross winds with frequent stronger gusts in the 25 to 30 range. While my rudder is large, that gusty X-wind component is a bit outside my limits so I bagged it.

Another day...

Danny thanks for the weather update. Sorry you didn't get to fly the sailplane today. Maybe we will get a flyable day on Sunday.

Found myself in Waynesboro picking up supplies (chips, salsa, beer, etc.) outfitting Chateau Brotto for the upcoming soaring season. Flags in Blue Ridge Summit were standing straight out but not SW... rather WNW. So I took the long way back via HR. The trees were a moving when I got there but up on the cube, there was very little wind. It soon became obvious that it was becasue it was blowing 90 cross. There were some choppy 45 degree crosses I suspect it would not have been fun.

About 6:00 pm back at Fairfield, things did quiet down a bit (if you discount the sound my RC plane made when I pushed instead of pulling; ouch.)
