Woodstock Sunday March 3'rd

Post by FlyingFelix »

I don't see a thread about it yet so I thought I'd get it started...
I know several pilots were interested in going. Weather looks OK - who's in?
If tomorrow doesn't turn out good I'll probably join Jon Monday -wish I could do both...

I'm a little bummed that the forecast has been changed to mostly cloudy.... But it's been so long since I've had a good soaring flight, I think I've just got to psych myself up for the cold! On the plus side, it's now a NW@15-20 'classic' Woodstock 'cast, and no more gust factor. If that holds as of tomorrow, count me in!!

15-20 is a bit strong of a forecast, but winds aloft don't look bad, and without a lot of sun it might not be as strong as forecasted.

I think I'm in. Will confirm in the morning.

Scratch that. If it's still that high in the morning I'm not going. I wouldn't have headed out with my Falcon on a forecast of 15-20. My mentality with the Sport 2 really shouldn't be any different, especially until I'm truely dialed in.

Tyler from the USFS and I are planning to meet at the Woodstock launch next Saturday morning at his request. Hopefully John McAllister will be able to join us as there isn't much I can add to the launch improvement discussion.

If there is any carpet left at launch, it would be nice if it's gone by then.

Thanks,
Dan

I've had about a 50-50 result on days with G30 at Woodstock. Trying to decide if the gamble is worth the drive... Might wait a bit to see how conditions develop in the next 2 hours or so.

Anyone else at least on the fence?

A bit too iffy today to worth driving that much... Will wait and go tomorrow - hopefully that will hold, we've been screwed by the weather 2 days in a row now...

Looks like it's forecasted to back down after 5PM today. This thread is about flying, not carpet removal. Weather.com has it NW at 14 MPH at 5P and NW at 12 MPH at 6P. Good luck if you go. And it looks like somebody actually flew yesterday even if it was cloudy (Randy Weber I believe). Bacil

Gusts in MRB and Winchester have been md_20s for several hours. If that contnues I think the gamble might be worth it...

The problem I've seen in the wi yet months is that Woodstock tends to get stronger through the day/evening and not necessarily mellow out like it does in the Fall...I've seen this happen a few times now. Take this with a grain of salt though since its my first mountain season.
It's a bit too late for me now and I decided to go tomorrow instead, best of luck to those who venture out!

I was on launch at 12:15P and the conditions were moderate, 10 to 15 MPH in the slot. Skies were partly cloudy, with some wave evident aloft. Spent all afternoon at the North Mountain Winery. Skies remained partly cloudy all day. Bacil
