Looks like the sun will be out on Monday and the northwest winds still blowing.
Anybody want to try to start the work week off with some airtime at Woodstock???

Yes, I plan on going, if winds back down to support PG....

Re: Woodstock Mon. 3/4
I'm in for Monday since today is pretty much blown out and cloudy.
Looks great for tomorrow, hope it'll hold and not go crazy again on us...

Looking like the knob got cranked up on the wind velocity for tomorrow. I am still up for going out and having a look see. Should be beautiful and sunny......and blowing straight in at launch....what velocity I don't know.

Re: Woodstock Mon. 3/4
Arrived to Woodstock at around 1230 to sunny skies and a fairly light 5-10mph west cross at launch. Felix had arrived not long before me. Temps were in the low 40s but it felt pretty warm becasue of the abundant sunshine......beautiful outside!!!! Around 145pm punchy thermal cycles started to roll through with the predominate wind an 8-12mph west cross. Felix was off first at around 230?. He hit some lift in the slot and got about 50'-100' over. He headed to the west but couldn't seem to find anything so headed back at launch height to the north finger.......found nothing along the way and ended up in the main LZ. We didn't have a car in the main LZ so he was stuck down there for quite some time. The kind gentleman that lives in the house at the LZ eventually gave him a ride to his car in the bridge field.
I found myself alone on launch in gusty conditions with a predominate west cross. Even though the velocities weren't out of hand (8-12mph west cross with gusts to 18mph...hall speed indicator) it was active enough up there that I didn't want to try and manuever into the slot and self launch......so i waited. Around 345pm, and still solo, things started to "settle" a bit so i suited up and started to make my way into the slot to self launch. Wind was about 8-12mph west cross with a some straight in cycles. (max gusts were about 15mph.) At about 4pm had a nice launch and found some lift out front. Headed SW a bit and hit a nice thermal that got me over launch. Worked some lift in that area until I found a nice thermal that took me up to 1700' over (this was my max altitude). Wind was decidingly out of the west and pretty textured. Lots of sink to be found. Bird activity was pretty sporadic all day. I yo yo'd up and down between 500' over and 1400' for a bit. The best lift seemed to be right around launch and just to the southwest. Everytime I went to the north finger I found nothing but sink...maybe should of gone a little further. Fun flight with good practice working the ratty lift.
Was planning to land in the bridge field (better for west cross) but halfway out I didn't like the worsening glide persepctive. I should have gone further up the ridge to the soutwest (upwind) before heading out to get a more favorable cross/quartering wind as opposed to quartering headwind. After gliding in 400-500fpm down and making 6-8mph over the ground with an airspeed of 30mph I decided the main LZ was gonna be better for me. Trashy air over the main LZ from about 800agl to about 100'agl. Had a nice landing to the west and Felix kindly gave me a ride back up to the car. Thanks man!
Good times Gotta find some more midweek flyers!!!
