I also noticed the forecast of nw winds for a number of days. The weekend does look promising. I am tempted to fly on Saturday (only because I have plans for Sunday). I will watch the forecast with great interest!
I'm in for this week-end. If not Woodstock (might get too light), then The Pulpit - kinda would like to change the scenery for a while anyway...whatever works best I'll be there.
High Rock would be awesome.
Any observers going? I only launched twice there and need an observer still. Promise I'll do it right...
If not I'll try other sites.
Opps, just rechecked; they upped the wind-cast to 15 (from 7 earlier today.) Direction still looks good but that's a bit breezy at HR. Please don't tell me I have to fly the saiplane for 4 hours in wave again this WE. What are the rest of you seeing for wind?

Well, It's looking more NW than NNW across the board, so that's good. I'm seeing 10-15mph on Saturday at High Rock and the same or slightly less at Woodstock. Hmm, not sure which I favor.
The last couple of months it seems like pilots are often heading out to sites with forecasts for 10-15 or even 15-20+. Remember, it doesn't have to be that strong to be soarable. Don't let the recent past dictate your view of optimal conditions. If we begin to start thinking that 15mph average on launch is optimal and make site choices based on that view, then we're narrowing our safety margin a good bit. Heading to Woodstock on a 8-10mph forecast risks finding meager winds all day, but it may still be the best bet, especially considering the stronger weather patterns we've been seeing.
Remember too that there are a bunch of new H2s around too, who would benefit from mellower conditions.
Very cold at Woodstock launch today. A foreign pilot/new P-2 managed to launch into 8-12mph prevailing, with gusts to 18mph AND snow flurries. Her name is Xiaoting, from mainland China, she had a 30 minute frigid flight. I would like to welcome her as a new CHGPA member and fellow pilot.

Most likely heading to Woodstock tomorrow. Unfortunately the sun doesn't look like it is going to be around much tomorrow as of right now. Will post an ETA in the morning.
Based on what I'm seeing Friday night, Sunday at Woodstock might be the highest-probability call (for the hangies). NW 10-15G25 and < 50% cloud cover. Lower temps than Saturday.... But I'd take sunny over cloudy anytime, this time of year!
Also considering a training hill day at Smithsburg on Saturday. Must be a glutton for punishment
Agreed it looks cloudy and cold at Woodstock today.... But I gotta work Sunday........ So...... Still thinking of heading to Woodstock and having a look at it.
Anybody left out there still up for Woodstock today?
