Looks like it could be very nice at Woodstock on Sunday. I hope the road is open. If not, I'd be up for walking up the back if it still looks as good. If the road is open, maybe we can haul out some more carpets... Anyone else interested?

Yes, it looks very nice for Sunday, Feb. 24th. I am interested an will be going out to Woodstock on Sunday. Also walking, if the road is not open. Let's stay in touch and if needed call my on my cell @ 703-967-8277.

Moved and rolled up all the carpet that was not frozen to the ground last Saturday. It is conveniently next to path. Planning to bring wheel barrow and move out on Sunday. Hopefully fly, too.

The site is looking great now!
Sunday looks good, we should be able to get a serious number of pilots out...sunny, warm. Can't miss that.
I'm in, hopefully we get lucky and stays nice.

Good to see so many pilots out today - like 11 or so? Most had great flights. Sorry the Paras didn't get to fly.
I got 2:24 hours, up to 6000MSL, went all the way North down the ridge, got some crazy fast climbs - a good flying day.
Not too bad for a winter day.
Yay for Woodstock!

Interesting day at Woodstock. Arrived at 11:40A to find Jesse set up and ready to go. Conditions were light at the time so he chose to launch and got up immediately. Jesse reported bumpy air and turbulence upon landing in the bridge field after 30 minutes or so. The rest of us, Dan Tuckwiller, Greg Sessa, Gary Smith, Knut, Felix, Andy, and I waited a while until Dan led the charge around 2P. Greg and Felix followed. Conditions picked up a good bit afterwards. They soared easily, with an immature bald eagle flying around with Greg for a good while. Gary had informed us about a moonrise at 5:05P which influenced me, Andy, and Gary to wait till after 4P to launch and hopefully catch the moonrise. Before we took off John McCallister and Randy Weber showed and launched as soon as they were set up. Knut took off just before 4P. I launched after 4P into moderate conditions and basically just boated around waiting for 5:05P to come around. I was cold during the flight, probably since my core was cooled standing around in the wind for hours. Lift was everywhere and I ran from it, trying to stay as low as I could (max 1200' over). The horizon had haze and a cloud bank so I bailed on the photo op at 5:10P and went in and landed in the main LZ in some moderate turbulence at 5:20P. Dan, Felix, Andy, Greg, Knut, Jesse (his 2nd flight), and I landed in the main LZ, while everybody else landed in the bridge field. Much thanks to Gary Devan for coming out and helping launch pilots and providing sage advice where needed. Andy, Felix, Dan, Greg, and I capped the day off with chow at Fox's Pizza in Strasburg.

From 11 to 12 conditions on launch looked pretty benign so I decided to try for an early flight. I guessed that it might become stronger with more lift over the next couple hours and I considered not flying early so I wouldn't have to land in a bubbly LZ. Got suckered into launching, however, by the conditions on launch. First 15 minutes were great, then it started to get pretty bumpy and I twanged the wires a time or two and decided I wasn't having fun anymore and went out to land. Couldn't get down very easily and had to do a lot of diving turns which exacerbated my building airsickness and the end result was a some crop dusting on Bridge field and a nice new smell in my helmet.

Second flight with an interesting crab angle on the down leg of my approach. Again, got blown too far over the trees setting up my approach but to no ill result this time.

Jessy, great video... .
I started 3:45P and after a hick up, got in the air with a good launch. Thanks for all the help and advices at the launch.
Did fly for 1:30 hours and topped out around 3900MSL. Could gotten higher, but there is just so much you can penetrate with a Sport 2. Great fly day after 4P. Decided to land at the MLZ after seeing most pilots landing at the Main. Landed around 5:15P, but should have parked for 10 more minutes in the air.
Did glide in with good speed, leveled off, and did let the excess airspeed bleed off. Then waited for the right time to flare. But could not handle the strong turbulent side wind, when flared.
Conclusion: I should have landed at the bridge field or I should have put out a wind marker.
One downtube bend and John I will call you soon for a new. And I will buy a Wind Marker.
Also, will go back to Taylor farm soon and see if I do have to work on some "Rust", so I can handle it better next time.
At last, Gary, I might go out one day to the Woodstock launch soon, with my two kids, for a hike, and some loads of carpet. But it will only be one SUV load. The kids, (5 and 8), will love a trip to the launch area, watch tower and more.

Sunday turned out to be a very cold, but fun, flying day. I managed a 90 minute flight topping out at approximately 2,500 ft over launch. I also enjoyed a brief soaring encounter with a Woodstock local about 45 minutes into the flight (short video attached).
