Woodstock Thursday 2/21

Looking good for Thursday at Woodstock.
Anyone up for it? We could remove some more of the carpets while there as well.

Jon and I are thinking about it seriously. We are both off from work on Thursday and it is looking good there. The road should still be open too. Bacil

Possibility for me. Anyone want to carpool down? I'm in Gaithersburg, and have room for two hang gliders, although the heater in my car is broken.

Wow, looking great for tomorrow, if it holds we're in for some great times!
Andy, you're welcome to carpool with me if you wish - I do stay out of the DC traffic though - I go West on 70 to 340 to 81...you could meet me around Frederik. It's a nice drive.

Hope to see a few pilots out tomorrow!

Thanks Felix...I'll give you a ring when I'm rolling through Fredrick around ten, although it may be hard to work out the logistics.

It was a nice day. I took off first into weak but stay uppable ridge lift and
Scratched around until I found a thermal which took me into thousand over
Territory. The other guys (felix, jon, and gary) seemed to have similar experiences and we all took Turns being the high guy. Thanks to them and bacil for the lAunch, and to bAcil for driving. yUnfortunately my sheetz breakfast burrito didn't agree with me so I was a little queasy for some of the flight but that got better after an hour. Everyone stayed up as long as he wanted. Nice to get back out, although it was somewhat chilly.

Awesome day - finally got to get a little used to the U2 (besides the 3-4 sledders I've had on it so far). 2 hours and 14 minutes of pure joy, a bit chilly but being up there on a beautiful day felt great.
Sure was happy to see 5 pilots out, 4 flew (Bacil was on carpet and driver duty - thank you for that!!) - the slot is looking natural and beautiful. Still a few carpets bunched up on the launch are and some rolled up but it is looking nice!
When are we going next??

I forgot to mention there was a Paraglider up after all of us cleared the launch area, we had no idea... - the pilot seems to have had a nice soaring late flight. Who was that?

First off a HUGE thanks to Bacil for sacrificing flying and working on getting the carpets out of the slot AND driving some away. Huge thanks man! The slot looks much much better. There is still more that needs to be loaded into vehicles and driven off but Bacil has done an awesome job of stacking them out of the way and out of view of people visiting the area. Also big thanks for wiring and driving.

The flying: Well you really couldn't ask for much more of a midweek day in Feb. It was just about perfect. Blue skies, lots of sweet thermal activity and plenty of birds out flying with us. Maxed out at 1400' over where is was pretty chilly. Stayed mostly warm except for the middle finger on my left hand..not sure what the deal with that was  Beautiful day, fun flight and a great way to spend the day flying and hanging with friends!!
Finished up with some Pizza in Strasburg before driving home with a big grin on my face.

I was the mystery paraglider pilot. Nobody recognized me because I did not have my hg tube on my truck. I had an enjoyable glassoff flight. When I arrived it was dead but the wind started trickling up the slot and by the time I laid out my glider there was a wonderful 8-10 mph coming up the slot. Somebody turned on the fan. Thanks to Bacil for cleaning up the slot! The carpets are not the solution to the problems experienced at the Woodstock launch. With that said, launching the pg was made more difficult by the line grabbing rocks and stubble. I had a nice 40 minute flight, gaining 700 ft above launch. Used big ears to get down because I had a meeting to attend (only 15 minutes late). Managed to get a ride to launch from a newly returned veteran from Afghanistan. Interesting discussion. Keeping my fingers crossed for Sunday!
