CHGPA 2013 Renewal : Join/Renew to Support Your Chapter

Post by carweill »

Dear CHGPA Members :

It's time to renew your CHGPA membership, and We Need Your Support to maintain our status as a USHPA chapter and to preserve and expand on the hang-gliding and paragliding opportunities in Region IX.

Easy, on-line payment of CHGPA dues is now possible! Tedious printing of forms, writing checks, mailing paperwork to the Treasurer... All thankfully a thing of the past, with a new PayPal-based payment form that allows you to pay either by credit card or by a PayPal account.

Here's where you want to go next:

• For the most complete information about club membership, on-line dues payment, and updating the CHGPA roster with new contact information, please visit the http://www.chgpa.org/ClubInfo/chgpa.memb_form.html page.

• Renewing members who simply want to pay their dues and be done with it might want to go directly to the http://www.chgpa.org/ClubInfo/chgpa.due ... aypal.html.

The goal of our renewal campaign is to keep our sites open and insured, to support the growth of our flying community, and to be able to fly safely at the sites which we all enjoy. Thanks for your help!

Carlos Weill
(2011-13 treasurer)

NOTES:

1. If you already renewed for 2013, then please ignore this request. If you aren't sure, then see Item 3 for further information. I plan to update the online member roster after March 15, 2013.

2. Online payment IS NOW possible. But if you prefer the old check method, you can still do that. See the CHGPA Hard-Copy Dues Payment Form.

3. A direct email is being sent to every current CHGPA member, requesting that they review and update their information for the club roster. The first line 'Year Paid' if '2013' means you are current. If you did not receive it, it is because the email address we have on-file for you is no longer valid, the message was intercepted by your mail system, or it's lost in a gigantic inbox. In any case, please contact treasurer@chgpa.org if you do not receive the email by Feb 10, and you want to update your info without using the full-blown CHGPA Membership Information page.

4. We will generate membership stickers for those who respond by March 15.

5. Your membership dollars are used to maintain site insurance and to undertake projects approved by you, the club membership.

6. New CHGPA members should review the CHGPA Membership Information page and then follow the relevant links to provide their membership information and then pay their dues.

7. If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to either
treasurer@chgpa.org or president@chgpa.org.

8. It's time to renew and did I mention that we Really, REALLY Need Your Support? Thank you so much!

Two more notes.
9. Please include your USHPA number.
I know not everyone has it but USHPA has minimum percentage requirement.
10. Use this topic to ask for common questions that may others as well

The form helps clarify how you want the money used.

Thanks we had a very good initial response.
Of course, after sending close to 150 emails, I should expect a good number of responses.
Well, it will take me a while to go through them, thanks for your patience.
I will respond only for Items other than data updates.
We will annouce when the roster is updated.

Nice job Carlos. It was very easy! It's probably too late for this year but I recommend making payments through Dwolla.com. This is a company just like Paypal however they only charge 25 cents per transaction (vs the 3% that Paypal charges). Sign up for Dwolla is easy too!

Just re-up'd for 2013. Very painless, thanks Carlos! I encourage anyone who is comfortable with on-line credit card payments to go ahead and use the CHGPA dues-payment form.

About Dwolla : Sounds very promising, since we'd save that 3-4% transaction fee (which amounts to a couple of memberships, given a base of 125 paid members).

From what I've read (admittedly, a very quick read), it seems that you have to connect Dwolla to a personal bank account? That might be no less risky than using a credit card, given all the security breaches that we read about.... But common sense might suggest that you would want to create a *separate* bank account, just for transactions (like Dwolla) which require direct linkage to a personal account.

And of course, we'd have to find out if we could have a PayPal-based *and* a Dwolla-based payment form, both directing funds to the same CHGPA checking account. This stuff is always a PITA.

2010 Members 63

Not a lot of movement in the last month
65 members now
There are still 50 from last year that did not renew. I know of a few that move out of the area, but not 50.

This year the club is making important choices on 4 of or most flown sites.

If you believe that CHGPA did not meet your expectations when you joined please let us know.

LAST CALL

We have offered to update the 'Member Only' Roster copy and send Pulpit stickers to everyone that joins before March 15.
I will extended to the end of this month (March 31)

You can still join after that just no stickers or roster update.

(Still 47 2012 members did not renew)

The members only roster was not updated in a while.
If you are a current member and would want access to it contact a CHGPA board member.

If you renew by 3/31 you should have your Pulpit sticker.
If you renew and don't have it contact a CHGPA board member. We may not have your current mail address.

Still 40 2012 members did not renew

I have stickers for Jeff Eggers, Larry Bunner, and Luis Boldrini because we don't have addresses. Dan Tuck must've moved because his letter was returned. And I was trying to save 46 cents by hand delivering Jesse Yoder's sticker (still haven't).

I'm sorry about the lack of an update to the on-line roster, that's on me, not Carlos. My hard drive died a hard and permanent death weeks and weeks ago, and I'm the type who doesn't just go out and buy a new machine (unfortunately) because I have many requirements for new hardware. So I'm using workarounds, and can't even login from off-site due to various paranoid restrictions and such during (say) lunchtime. Sigh.

I will try to get things back to normal soon.
