Pulpit tomorrow?

Post by andybalkphysics »

Might be the last time to fly in a while...NOAA says WNW at 10 with decreasing clouds with a temperature around 30. I could be there at 11 if there's at least one other person.

Great! I'll be at the LZ at 11:00AM, and I'll be driving from Germantown; if anyone wants to carpool I can take one other glider.

Below freezing all day and not so sunny. Winds are good but...it's below freezing.
Not so sure its worth it.
I'll ponder some more, but I will go if there's several of us going out. A crowd is always better.

Bring your snow shovels, brooms and heavy winter coats-- you'll be spending most of the day watching the winds blow like stink-- so you might as well clean off the ramps.

"you'll be spending most of the day watching the winds blow like stink"
stink (stngk)
v. stank (stngk) or stunk (stngk), stunk, stink·ing, stinks
v.intr.
1. To emit a strong foul odor.
2.
a. To be highly offensive or abhorrent.
b. To be in extremely bad repute.
3. Slang To have something to an extreme or offensive degree: a family that stinks with money; a deed that stinks of treachery.
4. Slang
a. To be of an extremely low or bad quality: This job stinks.
b. To have the appearance of dishonesty or corruption: Something about his testimony stinks.
Well, its smell bad & I do not have an observer & it is too cold, therefore, I will not be able to make it :( Hopefully, next week will be better.
I wish, however, that the weather will improve and you guys will have a great time!

Regarding Smithsburg, I have not been there since Dec 2011. It might be too cold there as well, but it could be fun!

I could perhaps be tempted into Woodstock, if the road hasn't been closed... For the Pulpit, I think there could be quite a bit of shovelling required, and with a high of only 28..... I dunno, guess it all gets down to how air-horny we are :-) I think I'll make my decision tomorrow AM, from under the covers!

Woodstock will surely be closed.
Pulpit - can we get to the launch pad without too much shoveling? I wouldn't be tempted to launch off the ramp with showing conditions...
I do want to fly, might go for it.
I'll make the call in the AM as well.

You won't need to shovel anything at all. The snow that fell is so dry that the wind will blow the snow off the majority of the pad, the ramps, and some of the setup area. Bacil

Thanks Bacil, that what I thought. The snow is dry enough here, comes right off the cars, should be even more so on the mountain.
S, probably no work to do, possible nice flights, a bit too cold but...might be worth it.
We'll see in the AM.

Maybe Smithsburg for a training hill day? High Rock area surface cast is now NW@5-10. Kinda bummed by the clouds, and the satellite doesn't seem very promising. Maybe it's supposed to burn off....

I could possibly go to the Pulit but need to leave my car in the LZ and hit the road by 4:00.

Could be a pretty good day at Smithsburg, and we should all get in a t-hill day before spring....

Looking forward to a day at the hill, though it's not gonna be today....too cold for going up the hill many times carrying a glider.
Hoping for a good Oregon Ridge day soon, much closer to my home.
