How can we know if Woodstock road is closed or not?

Is there a way to know if the Woodstock road is closed or not?

if it has snowed, then the road is closed. the ranger s take no chances on those switchbacks.

Hi, Walt-

While Cragin's advice is sound for the day of a snow, it's not that helpful for the days that follow when you're trying to determine if the road has re-opened. Here's what I do, perhaps others will correct me so I can learn as well. The VDOT number is 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623) that rings at 540-984-5600, the number pilots used to pass around. You can also reach VDOT by calling 511 from your cell within the Commonwealth. When the automated system prompts you, ask for an agent and then ask for the closure status of VA-758, Woodstock Tower Road, in Shenandoah County. VDOT has a road conditions table on their website that lists closed roads, but whenever I've checked it, VA-758 hasn't appeared. I assume they focus on primary roads. That could change, so here's how you check:

Sort the list by route number

I also have written down on my Woodstock page of the Site Guide 540-459-6167 for the Shenandoah Public Information Office and 540-984-4101 for the Lee Ranger District, but I don't remember actually trying them.

I just call the police office in Woodstock - (540) 459-2141- and they reply on the spot if the road is open or not
