Pulpit on New Years Day (Tuesday)

Post by Dunegoon »

Looks promising. W 5-10mph, slight chance of snow showers, high 39F. Might be fun. Meeting Bacil and hopefully a few others at noon. See y'all there.

Really??? You're following Bacil out to the Pulpit again. What's the batting average on doing that?

:)

The forecast is now W@10-15, but the gust factor has been removed. Still a strong 'cast for the Pulpit, especially given the cold front that won't push through for another couple of hours.... But even so, I might head up, just to see what's what. Will prob wait for the nws update at around 10:00 before deciding.

What the heck, I think I'll head up. Nice way to start the year, flying or not.

Just got back in town this evening after holiday festivities with family or I would have come out to the Pulpit. Forecast looked good when I checked this afternoon. How'd it go today?

Arrived today to find mostly straight and strong soaring condition. Bacil, Mark and I worked on the launch pad to improve the footing. Hopefully this will make future flights easier. BTW the ramps are very icy! Really wanted Mark to launch first, but they convinced me to take the first flight of the year. Had to play frozen launch potato until I got a moderate cycle. Easy takeoff and climb out into strong ridge lift. Stayed out in front of the ridge and flew fairly fast until I was sure that my Eagle would penetrate fairly well. Flew down the ridge and proceeded to turn into a flying frozen popsicle. Remember hand warmers and bar mitts if you want a chance at being comfortable. Cut the flight short at 15 minutes from being cold and craving some of my wife's New Year's special meal. Had some nice altitude for a good pattern, approach and gentle flair landing. Not a bad way to start the year!

Once we returned to launch, Mark was greeted with much nicer conditions. Very nice 12-13mph. He launched quickly and proceeded to tear up the sky with his usual style and grace. It is always fun to watch Mark fly. Hope he will elaborate. Overall, a fun day to be out in the mountains, and I even made it home on time.

A special note of thanks to all that have helped me this past year. John M. of course, observers; Mathew, Bacil, Dan T and all the many new friends that I have made. We have a wonderful club and should be thankful for each opportunity to fly together.

That would be NO. We were doing yoga at midnight!

Someone reminded me that there are too many people on the server that don't understand the inter-dynamics of our weather prognostication battles and that they would not be able to distinguish between poking fun and actual insults.

Happy New Year!

I've been on the list for five years now and you two do come across a bit strong. Your love-hate relationship could be toned down a bit. Here's to an awesome 2013!
