Shenandoah Nat Park HG/PG pass for 2013

Post by Joe Schad »

It is time to request your 2013 skyline drive pass. I got mine last year in about two weeks which was the shortest time that it took to get a new pass for me. Sent my request in a week ago. The rangers are checking for the passes so don't be without one come January 1, 2013.

How do I send my request in? Is there a form I fill out? Where do I send it exactly?
Sorry, I searched a little around and cannot find the info.
Felix.

I am glad to see some new pilots signing up for the permit. Skyline offers some fantastic sites. Make sure to go out with an experienced skyline drive pilot the first couple of times, but then I am sure you would without me saying anything. They all have rugged launches and LZs. Our other sites will look easy after flying Dickey Ridge!

I am still hoping to get out to Dickey's before the end of the year. Too bad I missed Saturday - it looked overcast and rainy earlier in the week.

Take care

One more question:
I was going to send in the application for special use permit (shenandoah national park) and it asks for the names, address and phone numbers for all 3 LZ's: Dickey's Hill, Hogback, Millers Head.
Can someone please send me this info or let me know where to find it? It's not in the "Site Guide".
Your help much appreciated!
Felix.

You an just write "on file" for each site.

It has been more than three weeks and I still don't have my new park permit.

Great news Felix. I received mine a while back. The best site is Dickey Ridge. I think it is best in a west to wow. We prefer light winds - things get funky there when winds are more than 10 mph on launch and we land just down wind of a small mountain so turbulence from that can be exciting. The LZ also is atypical from most LZs (it is a gully that slopes downhill).

It would be great to fly there soon. Let's hope for a nice day.

There were a bunch of XCs flown there last year. I never made it farther than just past Front Royal, but had a blast doing it! I love this site. Can't wait for more!
