Flying Friday 11/9/12

Post by sailin »

seems like there is some interest in flying on Friday....including me..so I figured I would start another thread. I'll be coming from work so will probably get to whatever site around 11-noon. Not quite sure on the velocities for Friday yet.....seen some different stuff...... but i am up for whatever.......Woodstock, Pulpit, High Rock

Who else is in?

I'm interested. Hmm. I'm liking the 55 degrees at Woodstock vs the 38 in McConnellsburg, but am willing to go where the wind blows (best).

Actually, tomorrow (Thurs) is looking pretty darn good for WS.... Half thinking about getting to work early and then taking off in the pm for a late flight.

Thursday looks too much for me. I'm definitely going somewhere Friday; right now it looks like WS. B/S improving, top of lift too.

Bunner, I am also a high wind hater but what I just looked at shows a reduction in strength for Thursday. I am putting a glider on the car, but not sure if I will be able to get away from work. Maybe out of Thur or Fri one will work out for me.

I'm in for Friday.Woodstock or whatever site everyone thinks looks best for that day. It's always more fun when sharing the sky with other wings :-)

I'm game. I have a few things to do in the morning, can be at Woodstock or Pulpit by 11:30.

P.S. I think Pulpit looks like the better call for tomorrow: sunny with 9 mph WNW at 2pm in Hagerstown.

Yeah, The Pulpit seems better tomorrow, at least for now. That's good, the last 3 times I flew were all at Woodstock, I could use a change of scenery.
Hope to see several pilots there tomorrow.
I'm up for meeting and dropping a car at the LZ if anyone is interested.
Felix.

I'm in for the Pulpit, barring any major forecast changes. Anyone want to carpool from Arlington tomorrow? Save gas and the environment...

I wish I could join in a car pool, though I'm in Baltimore.
ETA around 10 AM for me (hopefully earlier).

Are any observers going to be available Friday afternoon? I would like to fly if the conditions are appropriate.

Hmmm the winds look a bit stronger this morning on XC Skies. Are we locked onto the Pulpit or should we go to WS?

Wunderground and NOAA show good Pulpit forecasts while nostepper has higher winds. Woodstock looks rather light. I think Pulpit is still the best bet.

Please don't talk yourself out of flying the Pulpit today. It's gonna rock there today, and die off dramatically in the late PM. I guarantee it. Have some great flights. Bacil

Woodstock was not the place to be today. Zero to maybe 4 mph on the wind when it did blow. Mostly from the west and southwest. I packed up at 2 pm. The paraglider folks left for Dickey's. Hopefully they had some good flights there.

Sunday is looking better than Saturday for Dickey's. Not sure if I will be able to make it out Sunday.

Good flying and a pretty good turnout at the Pulpit. Larry Bunner, Jon, Dan Tuck, Daniel Broxterman, Felix Cantesanu, and Jesse, with Charlie and John M showing up later. I'm probably missing someone.

Larry led off from the old ramp. Most of the rest of us waited for slightly less sporty conditions and launched from the pad. Though it wasn't blowing more than 10, I rocketed right up a 100 feet or so.

There was a fairly small area of lift around the house at Rt 16, so there was a bit of traffic. When a flush cycle came in I succumbed without too much protest just to ease my nerves. Still it was a good day. Everyone had fun, and everyone soared. 1030 over launch and 45 minutes.

After several of us came back to launch, we found John M. standing by his glider after throwing Charlie off. We wired John off, and he and Charlie enjoyed the late afternoon hazy air.

Afterward some of us ate dinner at Tony's in Greencastle.

Fun day at the Pulpit! Decent ridge conditions. Ratty thermals and ample sink to be found. I got to 3400 MSL early and then sank down to ridge level and had to scratch over the house and Rt. 16 for a while. Best part of the flight was hanging out in bubbly lift at 700 ft over the LZ for 10 whole minutes before coming in to land.

Thanks to David B. for the carpool! Good to see pilots out in these chilly months.
