Accident?

Post by Danny Brotto »

Did anybody go into the trees today esp. near Woodstock? I hear that someone was admitted to Winchester hospital after having gone into the trees?

This information I got not first hand but from another PG pilots closer to the event.
So please do not take all this information as correct, I guess the pilot in question can add is version. I do not know who the pilot is, no name mentioned.
There was a group of Kitty Hawk HG pilots. One HG pilot was flying close to the trees and hit the treetop. Next the pilot crashed to the ground and as such broke his arm.
For the rest a nice XC flying day flew 2h, +1600meter asl (cloudbase) landed near Shenandoah park.

It must be a little more than a broken arm, I just heard that the pilot will be in the hospital for a "few days." No other details, except that they were scratching too close to the trees and caught one. Very sorry to hear about this.

Based upon the report of a PG pilot who actually saw the event from the air (not me) the pilot clipped a tree while scratching low and fell to the ground after momentarily being held by the trees. The pilot was extracted via ambulance and transported to the hospital in Woodstock then air-transferred to one in Winchester. I don't know anything more about the extent of injuries other than the broken arm. The pilot was a member of the Kitty Hawk contingent and was home based near Pittsburgh. I didn't get his name.

I was in the HG primary at the time and was communicating with the PG pilot who knew the location of the accident and a member of the Kitty Hawk contingent who was assisting the remaining HG pilots on launch who were attempting to locate him.

Please let's wish this pilot a speedy recovery and not speculate on the events leading to the accident on this forum.

Thanks

Last report I had, yesterday, was that he was still in the Winchester hospital recovering. Evidently there was more than just a broken arm. The report was that it will take time but, thankfully, he will fully recover.
