Flying this weekend

I'd like to fly somewhere this weekend. It looks like the Wilson Bridge is
going to be a mess though. That leaves Manquin or Daniels for Saturday. Any
thoughts on either of these sites, or on the prognosis for crossing the bridge?

I am headed to Blue Sky for Saturday with lots of cold liquids for the day.

It looks like the construction will only affect the inner loop; you
could still take the outer loop to get to Ridgely. Coming back, I
would continue on Route 50 into DC (it turns in to New York Ave), until
you get to I-395 South, and then take that to Springfield and I-95
South.

Probably going to Ridgely on Saturday morning. Usually 95 South on Saturday is bad during the summer.

Holly and I are at Blue Sky today (Saturday)...and yes, it's hot already and will be hellish...and yes, we're cowering in the A/C in a nearby Panera Bread!

(Gulping down fluids to fully hydrate before venturing back out into the inferno...)

Bruce Engen is here, Joe Schad's coming down...might be okay, but I'm wondering if the horizon will even be visible for aerotowing...

I learned when aerotowing at Lookout mountain (no horizon, just a ridge)
that you don't need the horizon, just learn to recognize the proper angle
of the towline.

Ridgely was hot, humid, and very hazy on Saturday. Wind on the surface was mostly 4 - 10 southerly. Launches and tows were uneventful and tows quite smooth. Dave P, Christian, Carlos and I got sleds (Carlos two). They did some tandems in the morning. Also, I got to do some PG kiting in the late afternoon which I always need practice but rarely make the time!

Sounds like I had a carbon copy of John's day.

One extendo at Highland: 27 minutes including the tow. Lift was weak.
I found something at 2000 and climbed with it for a whopping 400 foot
gain. That was my only gain of the flight.

I was the only solo pilot at the park all day. They had to cancel two
mile-high tandems due to the haze. So sad. Would someone please flush
the toilet on this crappy air?

A former Kitty Hawk instructor and friend of Sunny's, Geoff Copp, took a
tandem. First time he had been in the air in years. He's a H3 living
in the area who will be looking to ease himself back into flying. If
you see him around, make him feel welcome!

Winds were good for kiting and I got in some good practice. I was
scheduled to spend the weekend with Dwayne McCourt for some pg lessons
but we decided to bail due to forecast of rain in his neck of the woods.

I'm probably out of commission for two weeks cause of a friend's wedding
and work. So conditions are guaranteed to improve. You can thank me
when I return.
