Highland 9/15-16?

Post by callen »

Anyone interested in flying highland this weekend? I'll likely be heading out to demo a combat and potentially flying my old fusion.

LB,

We missed you to often this year at Highland.... Kick some more ass out in AZ! On your unstoppable and inevitable climb to eminence, I say you skip 2nd and just go straight to no. 1 !! (I intend to skip 16th next year...) Say hey to James and a big Hello to your lovely bride and incomparable driver. I'll be watching... when I'm not skying out.

John you still up for Sunday? Anyone else? Saturday looks like stronger winds so I'll likely stay home.

Charlie, I hope you’re right about Sunday. Depending on traffic, my plan is to be ready to fly around 1:30. If conditions deteriorate significantly – I’ll post. Ward

Cool. It still looks windy, just less than Saturday. Either way I'll be there to demo the combat. Saturday looks like a good cambel attempt day.

Charlie,
I'm out of town and if the flights go well and I make it back reasonably.... I'll be there weather permitting. If you want to set something up, I'm all for it so let me know what you're thinking... Your task calling credentials are fairly good. As usual... it's not likely I'll be there super early but with a a little encouragement I can surprise. Let me know what it looks like... I don't have time at the moment to look at the wx.

I think an XC on Sunday likely won't work as I left my glider in Chambursbug and I'll be flying Paris's combat (which i don't think i should be leaving the field with) however I could do a small out and return. I could always fly my Fusion but I doubt i can keep up with you on that piece of ....

You may want to ask them if you can XC the bird... Paris took it XC every time he flew it! Can't hurt to ask.... but you should get there early and fly it in calm conditions once or twice. Looks pretty good tomorrow... 4500' and West winds.... maybe a touch of south in them. I'll be home late and try to get up and get out there by noon or so.

Working today – I believe conditions will be good a Highland but looming work deadlines coupled with the cloud-cover forecast have screwed with my desire to fly today. I hope everyone skies out! Ward

Heading out now, will ask on taking it XC, I suppose if i don't crash it in the morning they may let me go XC with it. Ward I wouldn't let the cloud cover discourage you, it should be a good day :) Work deadlines are a different issue though.

So what happened on Sunday there? Even though I was not teaching on Sunday, I couldn't get motivated to go anywhere with all the cloud cover in the morning!

Sunday was tough... if you got there early, it was fairly easy to get to 5000 feet and lift 4-600 fpm. By the time I arrived and setup (around 1pm) there was a high overcast moving in. It basically shutdown the area and we all took very smooth sledders. I broke down but as I was leaving at about 4 or 5 pm, the sun started peaking out again, and I'm guessing it may have gotten modestly soarable for a period. Lots of pilots but late to arrive were the big losers. Bertran and Charlie and one or 2 others got nice flights early to 5000'.

As John said for those who showed up Sunday was good early. I flew Paris's combat which was a bit scary but managed to get a little over an hour and base was around 5k with nice clouds and good lift. Then it shut down for some time.
